in January and encounter weather problems? This will be my first ever flight in January (always have gone in the Spring), so I'm wondering if you've had delays etc.

We flow out of Logan this past Feb 1st without any issues. It just all depends on the weather. We are scheduled to fly out next on Jan 23rd, 2004.

I'll just keep my fingers crossed for this Jan. My question to Logan fliers... are there ever cheap flights? I flew out of Indianapolis in May at very reasonable rates, but the prices I see out of Logan are much more! Maybe I should drive back to Indy to fly to Fl :teeth:

The whole weather issue is the luck of the draw....could be no issue at all or serious delays or worse. We will all wish for pixie dust to bring you clear weather on your travel days!! Joyciemc, have you checked flying out of Green Airport in Providence, RI. Southwest Airlines has the only direct flights from there and they have their fares released up to Jan. 16, 2004. The next round of fares looks like it will be released very soon and would cover all dates in January. You have to go directly to their website for fares, they do not list them on Orbitz, Expedia etc. Otherwise your only other direct flight options out of Logan are Song and American.Songs flights for most of January were running around $200.00 but their first flight does not leave until 11:35am making your Disney World arrival time mid-afternoon :( :( . I got an American flight for April at $200, but last time I checked January was quite a bit more although I am sure they will lower those fares for January. The lowest fare I ever got for BOS/MCO was on American....$110.00 roundtrip, direct flights!! Hope this helps!!

If you're north of Boston don't forget to check Manchester NH airport. Southwest has nonstop flights from there as well and can have some great deals. As for the weather, complete luck. One good storm can cause total chaos at any airport. Good luck and here's hoping for a mild New England winter.

We fly out of Boston all the time (I live just north of you) and you never know what you might get. In 2003, I was to fly to WDW with two young children to meet my husband who was on a business trip. We were supposed to leave on a Thursday. They started predicting a bad storm a couple of days before Thursday so I got as organized as I could and on Wednesday at noon"pulled the plug" and changed my reservation to Wednesday night (before the storm). Airlines are more amenable to doing this when bad weather is coming--they want you out of there too. It was tough flying at night and landing at 11 p.m. with a 3 and 5 year old and no husband to carry sleeping kids. But it was worth it since all of the people who waited until Thursday or Friday had to cancel their plans because they couldn't rebook on flights until two days later.

So my advice is be prepared, be aware, and try to be flexible. Also, try to avoid connecting flights through other Northeast cities, like Philly and DC. You greatly increase your chances of weather problems causing a problem (you may get out of Boston but Philly could have a problem).

Thanks everyone! Here's hoping for no snow on January 9th!! I'm not so concerned about the return flight...that'll be after all the fun. thanks for all the well wishes. :D

Ditto to what everyone else said.

Weather is most definitely luck of the draw. We flew last January 26, and although it was c-c-c-cold, there were no problems. I flew solo in April and had to wait for the plane to be de-iced, so you just never know.

One more note on connecting flights versus non-connecting flights. If you are taking a flight with a connection, try and make your connection through that airlines southernmost hub. That way if there are weather delays, and planes are having a hard time getting around, you stand a better chance of getting where you are going with a 'hub' connection, since they may be more likely to have planes there. Just a thought. (i.e. Delta or AirTran through Atlanta, USAirways through Charlotte, etc).

Thanks Deb. Sorry, I forgot to add we have direct flights through Song. Taking that yukky choice of 3:00 pm because the kids have to go to school that day as they are taking the next week off , but going the day before so we have sort of an extra day, even though we really won't get to the BCV's until about 8:00 after a grocery stop. Whew! More than you needed to know, I know. I really, really hope we don't get a Noreaster that week. I have already cancelled this trip twice before, and we have to use up our points before February or kaput, they're gone.
Anyway, thanks again!

Jillpie - we're doing the same thing - got the 3:00 on a Wednesday (Jan 14) and will get to AKL in the evening. I was hesitant to pay for AKL for that night, but we decided to splurge and have a relaxing evening before all the fun. Kids will also go to school that day and just be dismissed a little early to get to Logan in time. Our return flight has been changed from 7pm to earlier (I think 4:30 or something close) the following Wednesday.

We got Song - 205.00 roundtrip includes tax. I am such a wreck about getting to the airport and on the plane - I go for ease rather than price!

See all the January folks there!

Harambe, we'll be taking the kids out early (about 11:30 am) that day too. How fun will that be for them??!! We always get a limo to the airport, and we were actually thinking about having the driver pull up to the school  , but then I remembered they have to empty out their backpacks to put all the stuff in there for the plane ride, so they have to come home first. We were just talking about how fun that day will be for them at school, just knowing they will be dismissed early.
So are you thinking about PS's yet? We booked Hoop de doo for the 12th, but thats it so far. Can't wait for the hours to come out already! I got that price for Song too. February rates were outrageous for school vacation. Anyway, happy planning!!

>>> yucky 3:00 flight

You can save money if you have to fly out late in the day, by staying in a hotel at the airport that night and going to WDW the next morning.

>>> empty out their backpacks so they have to go home first

Suggest investing in a second backpack for each kid so they can all pack the night before. Yes they still have to go home first (unless a relative picks them up to swap backpacks and take the school stuff back home) but much faster, don't need as early a dismissal from school, less hassle and much less chance of forgetting something.

Just saying I had a weather problem (not yet but fingers crossed for late November) won't expedite your journey if you have a weather problem so I will make a suggestion instead. I strongly recommend trying to stand by the day before if bad weather is forecast. The change fee is worth it to prevent having to lose days of vacation waiting for another available flight after the storm. You can even apply for a refund of the change fee particulary if your scheduled flight was indeed cancelled.

SeashoreCM, thanks for taking the time for your thoughts.
We don't need to worry about the day before costs, as we are staying on points and need to use them all up or they are gone. Great idea though.
Good backpack idea...I don't think it'll take too much time to empty out though, we are literally a 2 minute walk from the school, real quick transition.
We will definitely keep our eyes open for flights the day before. The change fees I am well aware of, unfortunately, as we have had to cancel our last two trips. I hate those darn fees!!! There are 5 of us and they sure can add up. But if its going to get us to DW, we'll pay them. We are going on this trip if it kills us, lol!!!

ooooh-more January people.

We plan to fly out on the 16th and stay through til the following Sunday. I am waiting ever so (NOT!)patiently for SWA.

Sounds like a few of us are taking advantage of the MLK long weekend.

Jillpie--great that you are on the non-stop. We're hoping for the same out of TF Green.

Hi Deb...we're returning the day before MLK. I tried like heck to get cheap flights (talking 200.00 or less, as it is we're paying 200.00 for these flights) after MLK to take advantage of the weekend, but no luck with Song. Get this, our kids have the day after MLK for a teacher day, and I can't take advantage of it. Oh well, it just means that after a long vacation, they will come back to two days off...not bad, ha?
Good luck with your flights. I have yet to fly out of Green, I hear its a great experience.

Jillpie - we do have the 205.00 from song that goes from Wed. to Wed over MLK weekend. Could you do that so you can include that teacher day!!!?!!

As far as PS's go, I booked the Luau last November (severe planning syndrome!) so we better be front and center in front of the stage! DD became a vegeterian last spring so has put a crimp in my PS style! I have picked Garden Grill, Donald's Breakfastosauras, SciFi (alcoholic milkshakes!), and Boma!

Debster812 - I'll be looking for ya! Where are you staying? We'll be at AKL? Please don't flame me, but I don't think I have the nerve to wear those Lime green ribbons! Hey - did you ever get the tickets for Lion King at the Boston Opera House!?!

omg Harambe, you've no idea what I went through just to cancel our last two trips...even though your idea sounds great, I could never change it now, what a hassle to switch flights. I like the idea though! My DS is in 6th grade and came home with a ton of math homework tonight and I started to panic that we made the wrong decision to take them out for a week in January :( . But I can't second guess now, we just gotta go for it. I am really starting to look forward to it!

Harambe--right now we are booked at PO-R. I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to maybe take 3 days at the end and hop to AKL. Gotta see what happens with any potential (shhhh, don't want to start a brouhaha) AP discounts. Right now PO-R is booked at rack rate and paid in full, so if any discounts hit, we could probably switch to AKL for 2 or 3 nights, and still stay on budget.

No Lion King tix yet, but I have a line on some through work. Should be A-OK

Not sure about the lime green either, as it gets closer we should see if our paths will cross at all

Jillpie--I HIGHLY reccommend Green Airport. One terminal. Very short walks. Although Logan now is not too too bad to get in and out of either.
