We went on a tour today of a cruise ship. The tour guide told us that when other ships are in port in Boston one of the excursions offered is a tour of the BIG DIG! And it costs $55.00! Can you imagine?

LOL!!!! Camcolt I'd love to see the faces of anyone who signed up for this tour when they find out what the Big Dig really is!!!! Hey, how was the tour BTW? We've sailed to Bermuda 3 times, but always out of NYC. What did you think of the Majesty?

The ship was very nice! Not up to Disney Boat standards, but still great and it looks like we could have a great time on there. ;) Of course, being a 25 minute ride to the port is the biggest selling point. No flying is very appealing to me. And Bermuda is absolutely beautiful, so that makes it tempting too. My main concern is if there would be enough for my kids to do, but they seemed inpressed by the ship, so we will see.

We've taken that cruise B.K.(before kids!!) and we loved it. My brother and his wife take their three kids every year and they love it!
That is too funny about the Big Dig, those poor people who take that tour. I guess some people will try anything to make a buck.

OK...curiosity is killing me what is BIG DIG????

This Canuck would also love to know what "The Big Dig" is :)

An archaeological site? A sandbox? An excavation site for a new building?? Do tell!

LOL, sorry!
In a nutshell the Big Dig is billions of $$$ worth of a mess throughout Boston. ;)
Its the name of the "project" for new roadways and stuff and its gone way over budget. Boston is pretty scary to drive in normally, but the Big Dig is making it even more of a nightmare.
I suppose if they took the tour underground and stuff it would be sort of cool, but from our impression of seeing the Big Dig, that kind of money for a "tour" of it sounds crazy! Just get in a car and try to drive. The tourists will get a good idea real fast. :teeth:

The Big Dig is a major highway restoration or rebuilding in Boston. It has been going on for WAY tooooooo long now and was suppose to be finished about 2 years ago (or so).

The completion date is now 2005 and to top it all off..........

THEY ARE BILLIONS OF DOLLARS OVER BUDGET!!! Yes, billions........not hundreds, thousands, millions..........BILLIONS.

My DH has a T-shirt the reads:

Still Friggin Diggin...........

The Big Dig..........

Boston

It has a picture of the Boston skyline with a crane in front of it!! He has worn it to WDW and gotten so many laughs from New Englanders and those they know of the Big Dig.

It's a Big Joke........but when it is complete......our city will be beautiful.......againn.........

You have got to be kidding??? I could do it for a quarter fo the price.. ;) What a rip off!!!

I think I am going to try and do the next tour of the ship. I cruised on it before the new extetion, so I am interested in seeing the difference!

Cam,

What ship did you tour? I flew into Logan this afternoon, and took Harbor Express to Quincy and it looked like there were 3 ships at the Black Falcon termianl. One was a Carnival SHip, and I could not tell what the other 2 were?

Worst part of the Big Dig? That my favorite parking lot in the North End does not exist any more :( . Harder to get in there for dinner now.

Debbie

Thanks Camcolt, now every time I drive through it, I'll feel like I'm saving myself $55, so maybe I won't feel so bad!!!!:)

I had to do a benefits fair at the MA Turnpike Authority this year (my job is healthcare sales) and I asked one of the guys when the big dig would be done. He answered "Are you kidding? I'm expecting to RETIRE from this job" He couldn't have been more than 23!

Anniet, 23? LOL!:)

Deb, we toured the Norwegian Majesty. Thats the one that does the Boston to Bermuda cruises every Sunday from like May-October I think. There were 2 other ships there and we found out 1 was Carnival, but we never found out the other one. I guess they dont usually have that many there on Sundays, but for some reason they were today.

Gee, all they have to do to "tour" this site, it pay the subway fair and take the orange line from Community College station to North Station...you see the Big Dig out the window of the train before going into the tunnel.

I'd love to open a kudzu stand at the end of the Big Dig tour!

Sheesh!

$55! LOL! Maybe the tour is run by Jane Swift!

OK....I knew Big Dig. Who's Jane Swift?

Jane Swift is the current 'acting Govenor' of the Commonwealth.

She's out in January. She was Lt. Gov, until Paul Cellucci was named ambassador to Canada.

this concludes Debster's portion of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Civics Class. ;)

Sorry, Jane Swift is (was?) the acting Governer of MA.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the Big Dig now one of the most expensive projects in the history of the United States? Did anyone do the walk of the tunnel a few weeks ago? Believe it or not, I was trying to take a bus back from South Station to Western Ma. that day. We couldn't figure out why everything was blocked off.... what a nightmare:rolleyes:

Was that the week it was all blocked off cause they had a radio show broadcasting from the bridge? By the time they are down with the big dig they will figure out that it still is to small for all the traffic that goes through Boston:D
