I am in the very early stages of planning a short two or three night trip to Boston. It's been about 12 years since I've been there so I'm clueless on where to stay. I'm looking for suggestions of hotels that are reasonably priced ($250-$300/night) either in Boston or right outside of the city. TIA!

Without doing a price check, look into the Marriott Long Wharf, it has a great location...walking distance to Faneuil Hall and the Waterfront, as well as the T. The Copley Marriott is also in a great location, but my first choice would be the Long Wharf.

I haven't been to Boston in a couple of years.

Usually I stay at the Westin in Copley Place. It is the Back Bay area near the Prudential. The Westin on the waterfront is a newer hotel and I will stay there next to try it out, but I'm travelling on Starwood points so price is less an issue for me.

If you go to www.spg.com it will bring up a lot of Starwood Hotels right in and around Boston, and over the years I've stayed at quite a few, and they are all in your approximate price ranges.

I've also stayed at Marriott Long Wharf but it's been so long I can't say if it's nice or in the range....but Marriotts are usually pretty dependable choices. I know there are also some Hampton Inns on the fringe and also a decent one in Cambridge. Check out Hilton as well.

I've stayed at the Sheraton Boston in Copley Place also and it has a nice pool with a retractable roof but the rooms are tiny for me. Still a nice hotel and location in the city.

Edited to add: wherever you stay get a cup of chowder and a few lobsters!

The park plaza usually has decent rates depending on when you are going. I often stay there for around 150/night when we want a night in the city. The Omni Parker house can also have some decent rates depending on time of year

Harborside Inn is a very nice hotel. Within steps of Quincy Market and the Harbor. Very clean. Have stay several times.

Thank you for all the suggestions. You all have been very helpful. I'll look into all these recommendations. Please keep any other suggestions coming.

Club Quarters downtown.
Fairfield Inn or Courtyard in Kendall Square Cambridge, one subway stop over the river from Boston.
Hampton Inn in Cambridge/Somerville, walking distance to the Lechmere subway station.
The Verb on Boylston St., depending when you're visiting.

That is DEFINITELY going to be more than $250-$300 a night, but the location is absolutely central, no doubt.

We just returned from a trip there in early June, and we paid more for a hotel room there than I have ever paid anywhere else, ever. $459 a night for the Residence Inn Tudor Wharf. I had a very hard time finding anything decent for a family under $350 that was fairly centrally located.

It depends on time of year, we went to Boston back in the beginning of April and Marriott Long Wharf was $299/ night. Most other hotels in the city were the same. I needed two rooms so we stayed outside the city and got a suite plus a standard room for the cost of one at the Marriott.
Before I went I read an article about the most expensive cities to stay in in the US, and Boston was #1.

The OP said she was in the very early planning stages, so it will depend on when she'll be there.

Also consider using AirBnB or HomeAway if you find the hotel prices are too high for the time you are going. We went the house rental route in May because the hotel prices went sky high in May during the college graduation timeframe! instead of over $300 a night for a single hotel room we spent around $150 a night and had a kitchen, living room and bedroom.

Enjoy Boston, it's a great city!

OP here. We are up in the air about exactly when we are going but are leaning towards next spring. I know time of year greatly effects the price of hotels. I did check some of the all ready mentioned hotels and, depending on when we go, might be doable price wise. I will also check some areas right outside of Boston; prices will hopefully be a little cheaper.

How was the Residence Inn? I have reservation for August. Do you have to pay for parking?

I live just outside the city and work in Boston. For a night getaway we like the Hilton Downtown/Faneuil Hall. It's a great location and nice hotel. You can easily walk to Faneuil Hall as well as the Long Wharf area. It used to be a Wyndham and a bit cheaper but you never know. Good luck!

Boston is expensive, but lodging is still cheaper than NYC.
Honestly it depends what time of year you go. Boston seems to have less inventory. We went away in March and got way better deals at NYC hotels vs staying in Boston.

Hi there! The Liberty is my favorite hotel in Boston - it can be SUPER expensive, but you can also find it for ~$200 on hotels.com and similar sites. For just outside the city you could also try the Hyatt Regency Cambridge, Cambridge Marriott (Kendall Sq), Kendall Hotel, Hotel Marlowe, and Le Meridien. All are just across the Charles from the city proper and have easy MBTA access into Boston if you're not a walker.

The suites at Hotel Marlowe are really really nice. I'm not sure what the regular rooms look like but the tub in that suite - very awesome! :)

It was great. We really liked it. I believe parking is something like $48 a night (we didn't have a car). You absolutely will have to pay for parking at about that rate for any centrally located hotel in Boston so far as I can tell. Definitely have to factor that into the cost. You really don't need to have a car there though.
