DH wants the Bosch range. I don't know anyone who owns one so I dont' know much about them. We had a Bosch dishwasher and are buying a new one asap, that decision has been made!

Anyway, I really like the features on the Jenn-Air (I like that mini second oven up top that I can use for most things without having to heat the whole even!)

Experience with Bosch or Jenn-Air ovens???

I will probably be asking the same question about fridges soon!

Thanks,

Dawn

my parents have a jenn air.. it's a slide in model with a downdraft... really expensive, but they love it!!

I have the Jenn Air oven, dishwasher and fridge. I love all three. I was thinking about the oven with the mini oven but the guy talked me out of it. He said it would be more worthwhile to have the larger oven. I wouldn't say the dishwasher is the quietest, but I run it when I am leaving the house or we are in the basement. It doesn't bother me at all. I have the freezer on the bottom fridge. It's really large and I have never wanted for more space. The basket in the freezer is very large and I often find things get "lost" at the bottom. I guess I shouldn't complain about space--there sure is plenty. Let me know if you have more questions.

Thanks. I think we will go with the Bosch dishwasher no matter what as we have had one before and loved it.

I don't know much about the Bosch ovens or fridges, but we have seen the fridge and liked it. I like the JennAir too though.

We really would like way more fridge space than freezer space as we have a large deep freeze upright in our basement and are always looking for more fridge space!

I think we have ruled out the little top oven too.....in the JennAir it doesn't come in the electric cooktop and we don't have gas at this house! So, we will have to go with the regular and are getting a flat top electric and front mounted knobs (slide in).

Thanks.

Dawn

We have a large 2 oven (side by side) made by Frigidaire and we have a Jenn Air Convection Microwave oven. Both are great...I love to cook :)

This is the oven: http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=169223-2251-PLEF489CC&lpage=none except mine has a grill/griddle in the middle instead of that 5th eye. That gives me 4 eyes and one grill/griddle and then 2 ovens...it's GREAT!

And we use our Jenn Air Convection Microwave when we don't want to heat up the whole oven for something like cookies, fries...etc. It's great and has a ton of preset cooking features :)

Our friends have a Jenn-Air slide in model. We have a cook top Jenn-Air. We both love them. Our oven is a Fridgidaire. I am happy with it, but when the convection fan went it cost us $350 to repair. A new one would have been $1500.

The last post made me think of something that you might want to factor in. The repair cost. I know that we had a Jenn Air downdraft when we moved in to our house and it was GREAT....till it broke. It would have cost 400.00 or so to replace the board...ridiculous since the oven was probably 10 years old!!! So make sure you read reviews and check to see what the biggest component is that might break and what that would cost. Even a simple power surge can ruin your board if the oven has digital controls.

Our Jennaire is 25+ years old and we've loved it, though it needs to be replaced now. All we've done through the years is buy a couple of the plug-in top units. Now the oven is getting a bit unreliable and I'd like to switch to gas. Unless we remodel the kitchen, we need another downdraft unit.

We have a Bosch diswasher and I swear a box of detergent lasts all year!:lmao: My only qualm is I can't figure out how to get it to dry my dishes completely! I didn't know they made ovens. My brother works for Ferguson and is a builder rep and when we remodeled our kitchen we were lucky to get everything at cost. I got a 5 burner Wolf gas drop in stove and double Wolf ovens and have been very happy with them. One caveat is beware of Viking as he said they get more call backs on them than anything else they sell. (Actually said if I picked a Viking he'd have to kill me!) Husband's parents have a Jenn-Air at vacation home which I've used and liked and has lasted well and Jenn-Air at their home in Virginia which is old and still does well. They have a Thermador at their Fla house which they also love. just get what you think you'd use more with your style of cooking. (I don't have grill top but where I live it's never too cold to grill out!).

I know we're discussing Bosch vs. Jenn Air but I just wanted to throw my 2 cents in regarding the above post - another thumbs up for Wolf. I have the dual fuel 6 burner range with grill, and double ovens. Electric ovens, gas range top. Love it! One oven is over sized, one is small, I LOVE that. I rarely need to use the larger oven, so it's nice to have the smaller one for everyday baking. I originally thought I wanted the Viking but the appliance place told me the same thing as the above post, Viking has the most frequent & costly repairs of any brands they carry. They also only have a 1-year warranty, Wolf had a 2-year warranty. Consumer Reports also confirmed that. Not cheap, at $13K for the range & ventilation system, but so far no complaints. I try & convince DH that it's like a beautiful piece of artwork. An investment! We have Jenn Air for all other appliances - love them all. Dishwashers are silent, fridge is fine BUT our automatic ice machine in the door broke 2 weeks ago. A neighbor told me they paid $400 for the service call & replacement parts, so I'll just wait awhile on that one. I can open up the freezer door & get my own ice for $400!

I am renovating my kitchen, and laundry room, right now, so I have been appliance shopping. In fact, just yesterday I did buy about 1/2 of my appliances. I looked at Bosch and Jenn Air for ranges, in addition to a number of others, but I ended up settling on the GE Cafe dual fuel slide-in range. I felt it was the best value for the options, and I will end up with a 5 burner range, with convection, and two ovens (the bottom which also serves as a warming oven). Lowes has this range on their floor and retail is $2499.00 - $2599.00, but I special ordered mine through Sears as they had it on sale for $2200.00, plus I got an additional 20% as their appliance sale ran through yesterday. It has the look of an industrial range, with large control knobs. A Wolf or Heartland were my first options, but I really just couldn't justify the expense of them.

I did like the Jenn Air, but my DH has one at work and hates it. He feels that the burner area is very hard to keep clean. I do have the consumer reports 2008 buying guide, which rates all appliances, so PM me if you want me to check out anything in particular for you.

Just a few months ago we purchased a Jenn Air gas cooktop. I bought it soley on the great brand name reputation. BIG mistake! It is NOT the company it once was. Anyone with older Jenn Air models will swear by them, but that is no longer the case. The burner knobs are made of plastic!!! During the very first week it was installed I cooked with a 12" saute pan. The large size of the pan spread out the flame and melted a side of the knob closest to the flame! I was livid! Needless to say, we called and had it removed and bought a different brand! IMHO, do not rely on the once good reputation of Jenn Air.

Well, that is so far above my budget that I really can't even think of that!

I honestly don't cook enough to warrent that into the budget either. I am a very casual cook. I really wanted something to last and look nice at least until we move in a couple of years.

We need a new roof, new flooring, a new a/c unit and are finishing off the unfinished basement.....13K would cut very deep into that budget!!!

Thank you all so much.

We finally ended up paying the $5 or so for a month of Consumer Reports online.

Bosch fridges and ranges were very poorly rated!!!! The dishwashers were good, but not the others.

We also saw the Sears deal to get 3 appliances and get a 20% rebate! The stuff we liked was also on sale. So, we couldn't pass it up. Retail price for what we got was over $5,000, but after rebates, it comes to $3,500 plus tax. We are thrilled because we had saved up $5,500 in cash to pay for it, so we have $2K leftover!

We got the Kenmore Stainless side by side fridge, the Kenmore slide in flat top electric range with the convection oven, and the Bosch dishwasher. The Bosch dishwasher actually says Kenmore on it, but it is made for Kenmore by Bosch.

We got them in yesterday. Now our countertops and cabinets look old and dated! :rotfl: Not sure we will get to that anytime soon with all the other home improvement items we need to do.

Glad you got the consumer reports!!! I'm a little late, but just saw this and while I don't have a Bosch stove, my brother does and they have had the repair man in 5 times and can't get it to work. This is brand new!! I think his GF ordered it because of the "brand name."

Good luck with your new appliances. That is so exciting!!! I can't wait to one day have my dream kitchen. Enjoy!!

Congrats again! My friend has that and she loves hers and she's a great cook! I guess I'm very lucky. We got our 5 burner gas Wolf drop in range, Wolf built in double ovens/each with conventional/convection, integrated full size Sub-Zero refrigerator, 2nd smaller Sub-zero integrated and integrated Bosch dishwasher all for about 13,000. I guess I owe my bro BIG time!!!!!

Yes you do owe that man - take him to dinner (better yet, cook him a nice one on that Wolf!) We paid that just for the Wolf range, and you got all the other appliances too. Actually the range was only about $9500 of the $13K, we had to use a professional ventilation system by Dacor due to some crazy regulations in our township, we couldn't use a standard range ventilation system. At one point the township thought we needed a sprinkler system in the kitchen because of the large range with the grill - what a nightmare that was, but in the end they were wrong. Thank goodness!

Congrats on all those new appliances OP!

Dawn, sounds like you got a great deal. We have Bosch for our dishwasher, double oven and cooktop and I have to say I have had great luck with mine. Good luck with the rest of your home projects. We did some large remodeling several years ago (thats why I have the Bosch and not my harvest gold color stove anymore!).

If you have a chance you should check out www.gardenweb.com for their home forums. The kitchen forum and photo gallery is very helpful and we received some great referrals for people to use for our countertops and cabinets.
