I have borrowed most of my 2004 points. I have a dec use year.

If I wanted to borrow into my next years points for a stay in this month is it possible?

You borrow from the 12 months that follow the first day of the month of your use year. That means with a December use year you can borrow from most of 2005 to use in 2004.

To borrow December 2005 points, your stay would have to be on or after December 1, 2004.

DebbieB is correct. To add a little to the explanation -

With a December use year, your 2004 points are good for stays that occur between 12/1/2004 and 11/30/2005.

2005 use year points are good for stays between 12/1/2005 and 11/30/2006.

If you borrow 2005 use year points, they become valid for stays between 12/1/2004 and 11/30/2005. (You may only borrow one use year ahead).

With a December use year, there is no way to make 2005 use year points valid for a stay in July, 2004. Sorry.

You'll have to pay cash, rent points, or add on to stay this month.

CarolMN,

Thanks for the example - it makes it easier to understand. I also have a dec use year. To carry the question one step further, on dec 1, 2004 can I borrow more than the 2005 points e.g. into 2006? Actually can I make the ressie now assuming I travel after dec 1?

You would only be able to borrow December 2006 points for stays after December 1, 2005. You can only borrow 1 use year ahead.

You could make a reservation now for December 2004 or after using borrowed December 2005 points.

December use years can be tricky to understand - you really have to "unlearn" all the things you think you know about years, LOL.

Keep in mind that calendar year is not the same as use year and that use year has nothing to do with when you can call to make a reservation.

Make yourself a chart -

2004 use year points are good for stays between 12/1/2004 and 11/30/2005.

2005 use year points are good for stays between 12/1/2005 and 11/30/2006.

2006 use year points are good for stays between 12/1/2006 and 11/30/2007.

2007 use year points are good for stays between 12/1/2007 and 11/30/2008.

And so on.

Then determine the dates of your desired stay and determine the use year it falls within. For your home resort, you can call to make the reservation 11 months ahead of check out.

You can only borrow from one use year ahead. (You can only borrow points to actually make a reservation).

If your stay is between 12/1/2004 and 11/30/2005, you may use your 2004 use year points and borrow your 2005 use year points.

Once borrowed, the 2005 use year points must be used before 12/1/2005 or they will be lost. Borrowing is a final transaction.

Again, remember that you cannot make the reservation (or borrow points) until 11 months ahead of your desired check out date.

HTH a little.

If you post a specific example (or your understanding of how this works), someone will confirm or explain it further.

Best wishes -

Thanks DebbieB & CarolMN,

Your responses really helped me alot. I guess you have to have a higher IQ to manage a Dec use year! Seriously, Carol, your differential between use year and calendar year made it click for me. Appreciate your help!

Aren't people on the DIS boards the greatest?? I have a December year use as well, and I asked questions very similar to yours about a month ago. The kinds folks here came to my rescue also, what a friendly informative group!!

This is posted on another thread, but just in case you haven't seen it, here's a points manager program:
