We have made an offer on a not quite loaded contract. It has most of its 2017 points, all of 2018 and so on with an Oct UY.

We are planning on a trip for 2018 in January. And plan on going every other year after that.

We will be just under what we need for points for this trip using what's left of 2017 and 2018. Can we borrow the remainder from 2019 or will we need to transfer points from another DVC member for the difference?

You can't rent points only reservations. If you mean a transfer be advised that DVC rules state that owners can not accept payment for transfers. Surprisingly DVC will let yo pay for up to 25 points from them for 7 months reservations.

To fully lay it out. Your 2017 October UY points are good for stays from October 1, 2017 thru Sept 30,2018. You are allowed to either borrow them back to the 2016 UY which would be for a stay from Oct 1, 2016-Sept 30,2017 or you could bank them into your 2018 UY for stays from Oct 1, 2018-Sept 30 2019. In the same regard your 2018 points would be current for stays from Oct 1, 2018-Sept 30, 2019 or in this case you can borrow them into your 2017 UY for stays from Oct 1, 2017-Sept 30, 2018. 2019 points could only be borrowed back into the 2018 UY for stays from Oct 1, 2018-Sept 30, 2019.

Yes, transfers are done frequently. If payment is mentioned during the transfer DVC can and almost certainly would not process.

You also could rent a reservation and have it linked to the reservation you made. If you did this you'd want to let the owner know that is what you would like to do to make certain they are agreeable to contact MS about that.

I really appreciate it. I don't want to do anything to jeopardize my DVC relationship. We will either cut our visit back one night, link with a separate reservation or pay cash for an extea night and link that way.

An October use year with "most" of it's 2017 points is far from loaded. It's closer to "stripped." You're in your 2016 use year, so it should have all of its 2016 points to be "normal" and it would need banked 2015 points to be "loaded."

Oops. Got the terminology wrong.

I guess I considered it loaded because a lot that I was finding were 0 for 2017. But I see what you mean.
