My use year is June. Can I borrow 2016 points for a May 2015?

Also, which is more cost effective : to rent points or to make a cash ressie for a portion of the stay? And with a cash ressie, is payment due at booking or check in?

No. Your May trip will fall in your 2014 UY. You can only borrow from your 2015 UY.

Reservations for June 1 2014 - May 31st 2015 can use:

Banked 2013 UY points
Normal 2014 UY points
Borrowed 2015 UY points

Reservations for June 1 2015 - May 31st 2016 can use:

Banked 2014 UY points
Normal 2015 UY points
Borrowed 2016 UY points

Point stays are always much less expensive than cash reservations at any deluxe resort. Otherwise there would be no reason for anyone to ever own DVC.

If you're willing to book down to a moderate or value for those couple days in order to save DVC points for a different future stay, the math might make more sense toward cash.

It depends upon how many points you would need. With a 25% discount for DVCers off rack rates for a cash stay, it would almost certainly be cheaper to rent points. If you have an AP, you may be able to get a better cash rate that is close to the going rate for renting points. For cash reservations there is a one night deposit required at time of booking.

Yes. You can borrow up to the amount needed at the time of booking the May 2015 trip.

Incorrect.

A June use year starts June 1, 2015 and June 1, 2016, respectively. A May 2015 reservation falls in the June 2014 use year. You can not borrow June 2016 points for a reservation in the June 2014 use year, you can only borrow 1 year ahead. The May 2015 reservation CAN use points banked from 2013, current June 2014 points or borrowed June 2015 points. I have a June use year, too. I am banking 2014, using 2015 and borrowing 2016 points for a June 2015 trip for 22 people.

When I first looked at His ? I assumed when he asked 2016 points for a 2015 res I just thought he meant the next year. Ie I thought he was asking about using UY 2015/16 points. Woops.

Thanks for the replies.

I was pretty sure I could not borrow June 2016 points for a May 2015 vacay but thought I would double check.

Unfortunately I seem to stay in a point deficit. :(

I have already borrowed some of my 2015 points for a Sept 2014 stay. I just need some of that pixie dust from the Cash fairy to purchase another contract.
