If I want to plan a vacation in March 2010, but don't have enough points in my 2009 or 2010 UY, can I borrow from 2011 -- I have a September UY. What I have now is 10 pts (2009), 246 pts (2010), but need about 300 pts for the trip I'm planning with my sisters.

I get confused with Use Year vs. the regular calendar year when planning trips. Thanks for any help!

When I get confused, I map out the points with their effective dates and add in the date of the trip:

10 points Sep 2009-Aug 31 2010 (trip planned Mar 2010)
246 points Sep 2010-Aug 31 2011
246 points Sep 2011-Aug 31 2012

So, you could borrow 246 points from your 2010 UY for a total of 256 available for your Mar 2010 trip ...

You could rent points and do a transfer to make up the difference. Another possibility is a cash ressie for the night (or nights) you wouldn't have enough points and then link it to your points reservation.

Your date of stay is in your 2009 use year (9/1/09-8/31/10). So you can borrow 2010.

Your 2009 UY hasn't even started yet. It won't start until Tuesday. So a trip during that 2009 UY (Sept 1 2009 to Aug 31 2010) will let you bank from 2008, use from 2009 and borrow from 2010. So it appears you will only have 256 points to use for that trip in March 2010.
