I always get confused with borrowing. Here is what I currently have.

549058

Can I borrow from 2022 to use this year or is that too far out? I want to use 113 points in March and then book another trip in November or December. Will I be able to use the Dec 2022 points in either Nov or Dec of this year?

Thanks!

Right now you are in your 2020 UY so won't be able to use 2022. With the borrowing restriction right now you can only borrow half of your 2021 pts so you only have 33 pts that you can use for stays prior to Dec 1, 2021. The 2022 points could be borrowed for stays after Dec 1 but we don't know when the 50% rule will go away.

That helps a lot. I forgot about the borrowing restriction also. Thanks for the quick reply!

Easiest way to know is forget calendar year and just worry about the UY of the trip,

So, March and November 2021 trips fall in your 2020 UY, That means you need banked 2019. 2020, and borrowed...up to 50%..2021 UY points to book those trips,

Given what you have, you have 57 points you could borrow from 2021 to book those trips,

If you decide to go in December, then you are traveling in your 2021 UY, which means you can use banked 2020 ...if you had them...2021 and borrow from 2022...up to 50%...to book that trip.

Actually, I think the OP can only borrow 33 points into their 2020 UY. It appears that they have a 160-point contract and have already borrowed 47 points (113 points remaining in 2021).

They don’t mention they have already borrowed so those 47 points could be used In a Dec 2021 trip.

However, you are right that the maximum that can be borrowed is 80...so if those 47 are already borrowed, it is just 33!

Good catch!

Question relating to borrowed points. As it relates to the hypothetical borrowed points from 22 for the Dec 2021 trip. If the Dec 2021 trip was later changed - lets say some time in the next few months. Could those borrowed points be put back in 22 or are they now stuck in the 21 bucket?

Normally, they are stuck. Right now, DVCM has a temporary policy that is allowing borrowed points to go back. However, that can change at anytime, so I would not borrow points with that assumption since by the time you needed or decided to change, they could go back to the normal policy in which borrowing is a final transaction.

I think that right now they are going back to the original use year, but that can change at any time.
