Borrowing Points

I'm a relatively new DVC member at AKV. When can I borrow my 2011 points if my use year is October?

You can borrow them based on time of reservation....so 11 months out at your home resort. Technically you could borrow 2011 points now for a stay in Oct or Nov of 2010.

To determine whether you need to bank or borrow, you always look at time you will be at WDW and not time you call to reserve. Thus, in your case, when you call 11 months in advance for a home resort reservation for any dates between October 1, 2010 and Sep 30, 2011, you can borrow points from your Oct 2011 use year for that trip. For example, you could call today for a reservation for Nov 29 to Dec 6, 2010 and borrow points from the use year that begins Oct 2011 for that trip.

Borrowing of points happens when you go to make your reservation.

Once you know what UY your trip will happen, you can easily figure out what points can pay for them.

For example, 2011 UY points can be borrowed to "pay" for any trip that you take during your 2010 UY. With October, trips from October 1st, 2010 through September 30th, 2011 would be eligible.

Any trips during this time can use 2010 UY points, banked 2009 UY points, and borrowed 2011 points.

You can still make your reservation 11 months in advance of travel, regardless as MS looks at what will be available at the time of the trip, not what is available when you call.

What about a cruise? I'm actually planning two vacations at once. If I wanted to take a cruise in December of 2011, when could I make that reservation?

Most cruises can be booked up to 24 months in advance.
