Bear with me. :goodvibes

We are looking at taking some friends with us in Nov.2011 and will need at least a two bedroom. Our home resort is SSR an in order to get the two bedroom we will have to either buy extra points through MS or borrow from our 2012 points. When the seven month window opens up we are thinking about trying to get a two bedroom at AKV Kidani to reduce the points needed for the week.

If we borrow points from 2012 UY, let's just say 20 points, to make our reservation and then are able to reduce our point requirment at the seven month window what happens to those 20 points? Do they go back into our UY account and can we later bank them? Or do they go into some sort of holding account and have to be used by the end of our 2012 UY?

TIA!

You can only buy points from member services at the 7 month mark.

If you borrow and then change the reservation, they can leave the borrowed points in the reservation and return current year points, which can then be banked. Holding account only comes into play when you change or cancel 30 days or less before arrival.

All good info! Thanks for the help. :thumbsup2

As long as you are still in your banking period.

Another question to add to this... Will our friends (who are not DVC members) be able to purchase the DDP if staying with us on points? If they can do all of us staying in the villa have to get it or can they get it and us skip it? TIA

Everyone has to get it for the same amount of time.

once you borrow the points they have to be used by the end of this year whenever that is

CORRECTION: With the new system, they should be able to only purchase the # of nights on the DDP that they are staying. I just went through this with MS.

:thumbsup2

No correction needed. You can get it for any amount of time, but everyone on the reservation for that length of the stay must have the same dining plan. You could get it for four of seven nights if you want to. But everyone staying in the villa for the four nights must get the plan.

If the guests want to get the dining plan, the owners must get it as well. What could not happen is the at guests get the dining plan and the owners who are also going do not get the dining plan.

Yes, as long as they're staying on a member's points, they can get DDP without buying park tickets.

No, unless you are in two different villas (e.g. you get two studios instead of a 2 BR). You don't have to get DDP for the entire stay, but for whatever period you desire, it's all in or all out.

If you do two different villas, then each party can make their own independent decisions about DDP.

But not if the two couples (families) are staying together. Everyone in a particular villa has to have the same plan, or no plan.

Ok, bear with me I have an upcoming trip on my brain and the coffee hasn't kicked in....

We are wanting/hoping to get a THV next year for five nights. The other family will be staying with us the entire time in the THV (or other 2 bedroom if we can't get a THV). As far as the DDP goes are you all saying that we can decide that we, as a group, only want the DDP for three out of five nights? And if so would the DDP credits expire at midnight on that third day or at midnight of the day we check out. So if we check in on Sunday and opt to get the DDP for Sunday through Wednesday would our DDP credits expire at midnight on Wed. or at midnight on Friday when we check out?

Got the point part of my original question figured out I just want to make sure that I don't give wrong info to our friends when we all meet to discuss making our 2011 plans.

TIA!

The dining plan expires at midnight on the last day you have paid for it...NOT the last day of your reservation if it's different from the number of dining plan days. For example: If you book the first 3 days DDP, it will expire midnight of day 3. The rest of your stay will be OOP.

:thumbsup2 Exactly what I needed to know. Thanks!

Reminder: You purchase the dining plan by nights. So if you arrive on Sunday, and get it for three nights, you would have the dining plan on Sun (night), Mon (night), Tues (night) up until Wednesday at midnight when it would technically be the checkout for the dining plan.
