I know I know another question about points borrowing. :rolleyes1 I apologize in advance.

My december use year confuses me sometimes when I book out of my comfort zone. I think I understand but I want to be certain.
Thinking of booking at GCV for June 2011 I know that I have to wait for the 7 month window.
Looking at my points contract: I have a few points left in my 2010 allotment and then it tells me that I have points in my 2011 and 2012 allotment.
If I book a trip in June of 2011, I know I can use my 2010 points, and my 2011points, can I then borrow from the 2012 points?
If I am able to get a studio for my dates and I am shy a few points, I have another contract in a different name for my AKV points and I was thinking of transferring pts from there to total the points I need, or even buying the 1 time per use year points from Disney.
I am thinking this out correctly.

Without borrowing, your December 2012 points would be good from December 1 2012 to November 30th, 2013. If you borrowed them into your December 2011 UY, they would be good from December 1, 2011 to November 30, 2012. That is not the period that you want to book. So, no, you can't borrow the 2012 points for that vacation.

Got it thank you. I'll book from my AKV contract, which is larger and then use my VWL points for a future trip to WDW.

June, 2011 falls in your December, 2010 Use Year - so you could use points banked from your 2009 Use Year (if any), points current from your 2010 Use Year and points borrowed from your 2011 Use Year.

I think what confused me was the way it looks on the DVC website. The 2012points show up as being available, and it threw me off.
I only have a few points in my VWL contract since I booked Dec in WDW this year with those points. So banking and using and borrowing won't work for me this trip, which is okay, I'll just take points from my AKV contract.
I just hope I'll be able to get something at the VCG at the 7 month timeframe.
If not, I may try for Sept, it's less points, but not by much and maybe not as popular as June. Booking offsite is always an option too, since a lot of the hotels are within walking distance. Decisions decisions.

The 2012 points are already there (as are the 2013, 2014, etc points) and available to be borrowed into your 2011 Use Year. With a December Use Year that won't start until December 1, 2011 and therefore can't be used for travel until that date.

December Use Years tend to be the most confusing since they basically cover the following calendar year as far as using them. Glad you have another contract that will work for you! :)

Using the banking/borrowing process, you can get three years of points in one year. For example you can bank your 2010 points into 2011 and in 2011 you can borrow points from 2012. This is one of the great aspects of DVC and allows you to have a real super vacation every three years if that is what you want.

Helen K.....please don't apologize. Your post addressed an issue that I've been worrying about.

My use year is in June. I have no points available in my June 2010 use year, but I have all my points available for the 2011, 2012 use years.

I'm planning on an Oct 2011 trip. I will be using all of my 2011 points, and will need to borrow points from my 2012 account in order to cover the entire trip. I'll be making the reservation at the 11 month window (Nov 2010). Because I'm making the reservation in 2010 I was thinking that I wouldn't be able to access my 2012 points (because it's two years away, rather than one) at the time I make the reservation. If I'm understanding the responses correctly, I will be able to borrow points from my 2012 use year, to be used in my 2011 use year, regardless of when the actual reservation is made. Is this correct?

Oh my...all those dates thrown out there. I don't know if anyone, other than myself, is going to be able to understand this. Just when I think I have the entire banking/borrowing points process down, I get thrown for a loop.

Thank you

use year has nothing to do with when you can call and book. nothing. zero.

your home resort determines when you can call to book, so at 11 months out in nov 2010, you can call to make a reservation for your home resort in oct 2011. oct 2011 is in your 2011 use year (june 1, 2011 to may 31, 2012) - so you can access points from your 2010 UY, 2011 UY and 2012 UY when you make that call in nov 2010.

so yes, you can call in nov 2010 and borrow pts from your june 2012 UY for an oct 2011 reservation.
