Borrowing Points and Magical Beginnings

The simple question is - can you borrow points if the date you make the reservation is more than 12 months from the date that those points are deposited into your account?

More detailed background - We are buying VDH points with a June use year, and selling the 2023 points to DVC via Magical Beginnings.

We plan to make a reservation to stay at VDH in January 2024, and had planned to make the reservation on 5/16 (the first day available to VDH members). Our guide is telling us that we can’t make that reservation until 6/1 because we have to wait until 12 months prior to 2024 points being allotted before we can borrow those points. This is not consistent with my understanding of borrowing points - I thought that you could borrow available points so long as the reservation fell within 12 months prior to when those points would normally be allotted.

Just to be clear - your guide is saying that because your contract is in its 2022 UY, you can’t borrow 2024 points into 2023 UY?

Everything depends on the UY, not the calendar year, of the trip.

You can book your home resort as early as 11 (not 12) months from date of checkin and can book up to 7 nights. For that reservation, you can use points banked from the UY before the UY the trip falls in, points from the UY the trip falls in, and points borrowed from the UY after the UY the trip falls in.

For a June UY, a January 2024 trip falls into your June 2023 UY. You could use June 2023 points (which you will give up via MB) or borrowed June 2024 points. You cannot borrow points from your June 2025 UY for a trip that falls in your 2023 UY.

I'm also a June use year and doing the Magical Beginnings for VDH add-on.

This my understanding - I'm also planning on a January 2024 stay. We would be able to borrow from the June 2024 use year for a stay in January 2024. I believe we are also able to call into Member Services on May 16th and book it since we would not be able to do it on the website. I'm still going to try on the website anyways but am prepared to call into Member Services. Hopefully they won't be slammed from everybody calling on May 16th, 2023.

Thanks for both replies. My guide emailed to let me know they made a mistake. We’ll be able to book the January reservation on 5/16.

Your guide told you wrong info. Just like you and many others on this thread, I sold my 2023 points back to Disney so I will borrowing my 2024 points to use. I did confirm I have to call to book on 5/16 though. So in your example, you can borrow from your June 2024 allotment of points to book as far as 11 months from 5/16 (I’m guessing up to 4/16/24 ish).

You can borrow 2024 points for any stays as far as 11 months before. In this example June 2024 UY - May 2023 but since VDH isn't open, you can book for any stays after late Sept when they're open. I'm hoping to go some time in Oct. as well.

This is incorrect. It needs to stay within uy so they can only use June 2024 allotment from June 1, 2023 thru May 31, 2024 if borrowing, or should say Sept 28,2023 on since VDH isn’t open.

I am thinking about doing MB if I can’t get a 1 bed in Oct. I will get a Sept UY. I want to stay VDH Oct 2023 and likely won’t be able to get a 1 bed so will just get a studio and then will only need to borrow about half of my Sept 2024 points. I then want to book a stay in a 1 bedroom for Oct 2024 at 11 months in advance. So in Nov 2023 can I borrow a few points from Sept 2025 to make a reservation for Oct 2024?
