What happens if I borrow points from my Sept use year to use in August and have to cancel? They can't stay in the borrowed year if the year is up.....do I lose those points?

You would loose them on Sept 1, so if you can't use them by the end of August, they are gone!.

Oh, I was afraid that would be the case! I'll just hope my DD and her friends don't cancel out on me - or I'll have to sacrifice and go in her place!!

Your scenario is one that demonstrates how important Use-Year <i>can</i> be.

We have the same situation.

When we bought in 1997, there was plenty of availability in all use-years, so our guide asked us, "Well, which month would you like?" Not having a full understanding of the "Use-Year Concept," we said, "Uh... I dunno." (try to make that sound as dumb as possible) :)

She said, "Well, when do you like to travel?" We told her October, so she got us an October use-year. In retrospect, it probably should have been set a few months "beyond" October.

As the years have passed, we've found ourselves booking more and more stays in September. We "did" have to cancel a trip, once. Fortunately, we live close, so we were able to reschedule. We also had the option of sending friends/family over for a few nights - instead of just "losing the points."

Good Luck with your reservation!

The only time Use Year really matters is when you have an end of Use Year trip that has to be cancelled. As in these examples.

Beth makes a good point to take into consideration when you travel (if you have a pattern). It's too bad Sept-Oct wasn't taken into consideration.

I have an April Use Year which has been great for my May trips and most other trips. However, I've begun to want to travel in March (for the Bay Hill Invitational) and have the unfortunate problem of having to cancel more than once. The points are lost unless someone can use them. If I do an add-on, I hope to buy 150 points that will have a Use Year that is better for December and March trips...this will let me cover the different times of year I like to travel.

I usually go Feb., so Sept. is ok for me. However, my DD wants to go in Aug with her friend and my niece, they are all turning 21 before August! I don't think they will cancel (they are so excited), but just wanted to explore my options. Thanks for the help!

We also have a similar situation. We have all of our points in Feb. and March because we travel in April and July. Then, two years ago we took a spur of the moment trip down for Christmas, and it was magical!:sunny: Now we are hooked on December, too! Well, last year we had to cancel, and had borrowed points, so we had to rent out the points to avoid losing them! The upshot of this is that we eventually did go at Christmas, anyway--a gift from the family! Still, the whole situation taught us that a Christmas vacation couldn't be easily done with Feb. and March points, so we bought another contract with an August use year, which is earmarked for Christmas.

It's funny you mention this!!! We have a September use year & I just had to borrow points from '03!!!

Our trip date <GULP> are August 28, 29 &30th!!! How's that for living dangerously???

We NEVER used to go Labor Day weekend, but the last couple of years we have & this looks to be the only time we can go in ALL OF '03!!! I'm willing to risk it!!!

What we really need is for DH to get more vacation time!!!
