Borrowing and transferring

I know I should know this by now but it is the first time it has come up. Can I borrow points from my June 2010 use year to transfer to a friend for a trip in December 2009?

Couldn't you just make the reservation in freinds name. It would would be the same and you could still borrow. Just a thought.
