Borrowing and getting a transfer

Hi.

Does anyone know if you get a transfer into a UY (September 2021), does that count/not count
towards the 50% that can be borrowed from the next UY.

I believe the OTU 24 points does not count and wondering if I got a transfer in to my 2021 UY, if I could
borrow for a vacation in September 2020 and have it count towards the 50% of points that can only be borrowed?

Transferred points are not borrowed points, so they don’t count against your ability to borrow from the next UY. DVC is mainly concerned with points flooding the next UY because so many members had to bank points into 2021 due to the closure. Transferred points are just lateral moves.

MS just told me that transferred points cannot be borrowed, only banked.
Is this correct?

If so, I cannot get a transfer to September 2021 UY and book a September 2020 trip, is that correct?
I thought it was the opposite that I could borrow but not bank.

MS is correct. You cannot borrow transferred points but you can bank them. Transferred points retain their original home resort and UY, so they will expire on their own timetable if your own UY does not match.

Now, one point on which I have not received clarification is that the banking deadline does not apply to transferred points. So if I were to take a transfer of Dec 2019 points today, I could bank them into 2020 even though the banking deadline for Dec UYs is July 31. Maybe someone with more experience on that can chime in.

So, if your banking deadline clarification is correct, I would have to see if I had received a transfer in of 2019 UY points. Is that correct? I would prefer a transfer over someone booking for me.

You are allowed to get one transfer, in our out per UY. So, if yu are unsure, MS can tell you what has been done,

All that you need to ensure is that the points transferred can be used for the trip you want to book...and of course, will have to call to use them once in your account.

Transferred points cannot be borrowed, only banked. If you have already received a transfer into your Sept 2020 UY, you cannot transfer in again. You could transfer into your Sept 2021 UY. But since you cannot borrow transferred points, they will remain in your September 2021 UY and cannot be used for reservations occurring prior to Sept. 1, 2021.

It’s pretty complicated. I recommend reading this thread from 2005. I believe that the rules have not changed since then and it is the most thorough explanation I have found to date.

Correct, At this point, you can only get what would be considered 2021 UY points.

I assume the points you got were Sept or later points? I ask because I transferred June 2020 UY points into my Dec 2019 UY, and was told it counted as my 2019 UY..

So, even though the points were 2020 UY for June, it didn’t count as my 2020 transfer, even though I can use those points during my actual 2020 UY because the UY they went into was my 2019 UY.

I am currently using them as part of an October reservation, which is indeed in my Dec 2019 UY.

Not exactly. I got June 2020 UY points transferred into my Dec 2019 UY...just could not use them until June 1st,

As mentioned, they are currently being used in an October reservation which is part of that Dec 2019 UY.
