I am calling next month when my 11month window opens up to book a 2 bedroom at AKV
I will need to borrow points for this which I am fine with but in the event that the rest of our travel party cancels and I need to change to a 1 bedroom that doesn't require as many points can I just use the "borrowed" points for the reservation and bank the rest? I know that borrowing is a final transaction but I also don't want to lose any points.

Yes, you can do that. Just make sure that you remind MS that you want them to use up those borrowed points first.

yes borrowed points are a final transaction. any points that you do not use for the use year will go back & those you may bank.

As previous poster said, you can do this. When you cancel your 2-bedroom reservation, all points will go back into your account in the use year in which the vacation had been booked. Member services should automatically use the borrowed points first, but it doesn't help to specifically mention this to them. (The online system should do the same. Be sure to check before you finalize the transaction, though.)

You'll have two dates to keep your eye on. You should consider the earlier date of the two as your go/no-go date -- the last day to change from two bedrooms to one. The first date to watch out for is 31 days prior to check-in. If you cancel 30 days or fewer before check-in, all the points from the reservation will go into a holding account. You cannot bank points in holding. The other date to keep an eye on is your banking deadline. You can only bank during the first 8 months of your use year. If you change from two bedrooms to one in the last 4 months of your use year, you won't be able to bank the extra points.
