Borrowed DVC Points during COVID

I've been looking every where for an answer but can't find one. We booked a trip in September for our first DVC trip using all borrowed points since we bought a stripped contract. Our original plan was to attend a wedding then head to Disney, however, due to COVID 19 the wedding has now been postponed and with a few family members considered high risk with COVID, we unfortunately and regrettably feel that we need to postpone our trip until things settle down. Now for my actually question since I made you read my sob story: If we cancel our trip now, what happens to our points? Do they back to our account and I have to use them before December (our use month)? Or will they now go back to next year with the COVID policies in place that you can only use a certain % of your points in 2020 if they are borrowed?
 
I'm not being flippant but, have you tried reaching out to Member Services?

I called Member Services yesterday to help with this very question - they helped me to cancel my August trip - the majority of which was made with my 2020 points - I also have a November trip planned that was made primarily with borrowed points. They helped by moving around the points so that the 2020 points were shifted into the November reservation and the borrowed points that were used to make it went back to their original use year - 2021. I cancelled at the 39 day mark.

I highly suggest waiting the however long it takes on hold and walking through this with Member Services. I wouldn't have been able to do this on my own. Additionally their normal policies are temporarily being waived - but it is not clear for how long - the CM i was talking to didn't even know. Whatever you are going to do - do it soon because the policy may change back to normal and I think if it does, the borrowed points go to your current UY.

OH and re: this - yes they go to the year you borrowed from AND until further notice - the 50% rule will apply.
 
Currently they are returning borrowed points so you can cancel online and email or call MS.

Once returned you will be limited to the 50% rule until that is changed again..which I think will be not until next spring...at the earliest.
 

They WILL unborrow your points so you’re all good :)
When I asked when they will stop being so nice (ie stop returning points), and they said it can happen any time and without notice so we cancelled instead of waiting to see what was going to happen in August.
My advice- cancel- you’ll do better in the end and your excitement for next trip will begin all over :)

They won’t go back right away, but they do a sweep every Thursday. It could take a couple of weeks..they say 15 days...if not back by then, call or email...unless you want them to book right away...then call and they will help get them moved faster.
