Borrow for waitlist

Let me start by saying my account / reservations/ point allocations / are a mess!

But one thing at a time....

I was going to waitlist one night to add to the beginning of an existing res. The points I have available right now are transferred in.

I need to / will do a reallocation at some point, but wanted to wait until I know I'm not making any changes. (Once I reallocate, I would have 2018 points available and it's a 2018 UY reservation.)

When I went to make the waitlist request, it tells me they may need to borrow to complete the request and which contract do I want to use, etc. Is this a standard question no matter your points "situation" or is it because my available points are transferred (and banked)? Will they use those points or borrow?!?!?

Should I reallocate first? Will that eliminate needing to give them auth to borrow? I shouldn't need to borrow! :faint:

What I'd really like to do is buy OTU points for this additional night. I'd have to stalk and call for that though, right? (No way to waitlist and "pay" with OTU points? I'm trying to conserve as many points for a 2019 trip as possible.)

The more you mess with transfers and relocations, the greater the chance of things going wrong. At some point you will find out that it just isn't worth it. In the past we had point errors supposedly cause by a software issue, it took a few hours of our time over a few weeks to get it corrected. Several CM's said that we were wrong and they blew us off. Eventually we found an upper manager who looked at all of our evidence and agreed that something was wrong. It was escalated and IT found the error and eventually they corrected our account. Starting then we keep all records off line and maintain our own spread sheets on our point usage.

So, do they always ask for permission to borrow when creating a waitlist?

You are dealing with people and they make mistakes, don't always follow policy, might not care, might not be trained, or they may know what they are doing and everything will work as expected. The only way for you to win is to not play. Keep things simple, deal with as few people as possible, hope for the best and plan for the worse.

It is commonly thought that while the WL are matched automatically, it's a CM that finalizes the transaction and books the reservation.
So it's up to: "will the CM notice that there are transfered points he can allocate to the reservation?".
There is a chance they won't.

I think I'm just going to stalk.

OR call to have my points reallocated first.

I did try making an online reservation (for a dif resort) and it is letting me do it myself despite these technically being transferred in banked points.

I'm so confused.

It is just really hard to see where they took the points from for each reservation. I've modified about a million times now. Still not done messing around with my flights, so I may not be finished yet.

I realize I'm creating this mess.

I've also just realized I will not be able to play with my dates like this next year as I will be borrowing a few points. If I borrow, I can't put back. Guess I'll have to be more decisive.

My advice is to go ahead and set up the waitlist. Then call MS and ask the CM to put a note on your waitlist that you have transferred points available. That should prompt the CM to look for those instead of borrowing.

Once the waitlist works (hope it does), then call and ask to reallocate if you need to do that.

You can't use One Time Use points to waitlist. You have to be making the reservation at seven months or less out and you must call MS to do this.
