jimmiej, my SIL's family lives in New Braunsfel, TX. I'd never heard of it before, until they moved there. My SIL and daughter are there now visiting family before he prepares to deployment to Kuwait!

Just checking in here, grew up in a very strict Baptist home, father was head deacon, etc. Accepting Christ at age 15 (30 years ago, wow!). Got really away from God for many years, but have a great relationship with him now. We attend a Four Square Church, which we love.

As an aside, I have some wonderful news to share. I've been awaiting test results of a biopsy on some lymph nodes in my neck. Today I found out it was NOT cancer, just chronic inflammation!!! PRAISE the LORD!! :cool1: That's another reason why this topic was so interesting to me, with the thought of cancer looming in the horizon!

YAY!! :cool1:
Congratulations! :cheer2:
That is great! :cloud9:

God's will is very confusing. We just went through a situation where my youngest got pregnant before she was married. She was 21, the dad was 20. I was devastated, and very sad that she made that choice. Fast forward 16 months. Said daughter is married to the baby's dad, Chris. Chris has accepted Christ, joined the Army and really gotten his life straightened out. I can't imagine my life w/o Chris or Ireland (my beautiful granddaughter). Now, was it God's will that they go "out of order" so that circumstances would turn Chris' life around? Did God take a bad choice and cause Chris to turn around? Would Chris have his life together, on track and be so happy, had it not been for Ireland coming into this world? I do not know, but I know that God is good, and His hand has been all over this situation. The joy I feel when I see Ireland, when I see Kimmi and Chris so happy (even though they live in Oklahoma), when I see that they are dedicated to raising Ireland in a Christian home, is amazing compared to the devastation I felt in March of last year when this all started. So, to answer if I understand God's will, I do not, but I understand His love, which is what gets me through.

TC I remember you posting when you daughter became pregnant. I am so happy to see that everything has worked itself out. Sometimes all we need is time and a push in the right direction.

Hi Studentmom, checking in :wave2:
I first accepted the Lord when I was 13, didn't necessarily come from a Christian home, lots of problems. My mom took me to church when I was little, but it was just church. I don't remember any talk of accepting Jesus into your heart, or digging deep into the word daily.

Fast forward- when I was 13 we went to another church that was just different. Everyone was happy and had sincere joy and loved God. Well, a friend led my to Christ then. Although I walked strong for years, there came a time when I slowly stopped going to church, reading my bible, and sort of took my eyes off of God. Fortunately, I did recommit my life to the Lord about 5 years ago and have been doing so since. There is nothing like that peace again, KWIM?

I don't know what kind of sect my church is affliliated with, perhaps evangelical. I go to a Calvary Chapel.
God Bless you all.

I attend a Calvary Chapel as well. I just say it is a non-denominational Christian church. :)

What a nice thread!

I was raised in a Christian home and accepted Christ at a very young age. However I went through quite the rebellious stage starting at 12-16. I did a lot of stupid things during those years and did not make God a priority in my life. Thankfully, I turned to God again when I was 17 and am saved now. Dh is also saved and I am happy to be able to raise dd in a Christian home. I guess I am non-denominational as I don't really think the denomination matters as long as you are saved and live your life for the Lord. Dh and I attended a southern Baptist church for a few years b/c that is where his family goes. However we really did not feel comfortable with this church as we soon began to see that they were very hypocritical and did not share the same beliefs. For example, their view (don't know if this goes for all southern baptists or just this particular church though!) is you go to church and you automatically go to heaven. Don't go to church and you go to hell regardless of whether you are truly saved or how you live your life. I just don't buy into that type of church so we stopped going. We haven't found a new church but we live our lives for Christ and that is all that matters. Of course my MIL is devastated as she believes we are going to hell. You win some, you lose some I guess! Anyway, this is a nice thread and I hope it doesn't get closed by those that enjoy debates!

FTR, I also believe we are living in the end times...just not sure how far into it we are right now!

I just found this thread, so I'm checking in.

I was saved at age 12, and always went to church, but really only started living for the Lord at age 39. I haven't read through all the thread, but I'm really glad to "meet" you all.

Do any of you ever wonder if you spend too much time focused on Disney and not as much focused on God? I do, and feel guilty about it. I stay away from the DIS for a few days, but always come back.

In Him,
Lisa

If it comes in about one minute or after I die it's good to know that regardless of when it happens I'm got a space in heaven waiting for me.

Oooooh, hang on there...

Are you meaning to say that you definitely have a place in heav'n?

If you have accepted Christ into your heart as your personal God and saviour, you DEFINITELY have a place in Heaven!!

Isn't it great?!?! :cheer2:

Just wanted to say HI!! :wave2:

I totally agree with this. Christ's action on the cross and raising from the dead and my belief in Him are sufficient. I don't need to help God at all--He's done it all! I totally believe that the Bible tells us we can know for sure, without a doubt, of our salvation.

Albertan mom, I am not one to debate. I can totally respect where you are coming from. I was there, not long ago, when the Lord brought a homosexual person into my life. Although we aren't best friends or anything like that, we do have an interest that brings us together once a week. She is a wonderful person and I feel very sure that God wants me to handle our friendship in the right way. I hope you feel I was trying to start anything or a debate, I was not. I guess I'm just very sensitive to the issue because of this happening to me & because of some of the discussions that have taken place in my SS class in the past. I apologize if you read my post (or I even sounded) like I was being anything but respectful.

BTW, to Tasha and Scott, as far as I know, as a Southern baptist, that is NOT how we think. Going to church or which church doesn't allow you into Heaven. It is only through Jesus Christ that we are assured of our place in Heaven.
However, I will say that your MIL may be like mine. She thinks not ANY Baptist church will do--we needed to look for a Southern Baptist church. I don't think her stance had anything to do with going to Heaven though. I think it was more about it being a Southern Baptist as her heart is also in missions & the SBC is a huge supporter of home and foreign missions. :)

No, I didn't think you were trying to debate me. I respect you, and that you are reaching out to that person. I do totally believe that God put her in your life because he wanted you to reach out to her. Obviously God has faith in you, and trusts that you will do and say the right things for her. I can only hope and pray that if the same thing happened to me, that I could have an open mind and heart and do what God wanted me to do!

Still loving this thread! :flower:

I totally agree. ::yes::

Tasha and Scott, I am also Southern Baptist, but I do not agree that just going to church gets you into heaven. Just like I don't believe that not going to church sends you to hell. Jesus is the way to heaven, not church attendance.

Miss Jasmine, I tend to believe, as you, that we are living in the last days. The wars and rumors of wars, earthquakes, etc.. we have them all, and they seem to be more prevalent. I know that the day is getting closer! (Like the Chris Rice song)

Maybe it is my Catholic upbringing but I just can't fall in line behind this kind of faith. You can't be "saved" and then beat your children. I would like to think that my being a good person counts for something with the man upstairs. Or else by your definition I could go and be saved and then murder someone the next day. Doesn't matter - God is on my side?
