Born Again Christians Thread-No Bashing please

Hello everyone! It has been a while since I've posted here, and I wanted to pop in and say hello. It looks like several new people are here now--welcome!

Grandma Bear, I will lift Art up in prayer right now. May the Lord reveal Himself to those that do not know Him.

palmtreegirl, congratulations on making the decision to accept Christ as your Savior! I know that it is hard to come to terms with it when a church disappoints us, and I will say a prayer that God will lead you to the right place where you can grow to know Him even better. Also, remember that all churches are flawed, but that there are many that are sincerely doing their very best to minister to their members and non-members too. Be sure to find one that preaches based on the Bible. I'm sure that God will lead you to a place you will feel safe.

What a blessing! As others have said, pray that God will lead you to the right church family. We have attending many different churches and found a home in an Assembly of God. As a child I attended a non-denominational church. I enjoy both churches. Just my personal preference, but I am not a firm believer in many "rules". No offense to anyone but I believe that having a close personal relationship with Jesus Christ will get me to heaven not whether I forgo meat on certain days or forgo dancing. I know everyone has different beliefs so I truly respect how everyone worships but I personally enjoy the AoG approach of a more relaxed yet intense love of God (if that makes sense).

You sound a lot like me. I go to a non-denominational church, but I have been considering starting to go to an Assembly of God church. I have attended services at one near my mom's house a couple of times, and really enjoyed it.

It is nice to see this thread revived.

Palmtreegirl, thank you for sharing your story with us.

I got this message in an email and I thought it was a cute reminder...

Sometimes we wonder, "What did I do to deserve this?" or "Why did God have to do this to me?" Here is a wonderful explanation!

A daughter is telling her Mother how everything is going wrong, she's failing algebra, her boyfriend broke up with her and her best friend is moving away.

Meanwhile, her Mother is baking a cake and asks her daughter if she would like a snack, and the daughter says, "Absolutely Mom, I love your cake."

"Here, have some cooking oil," her Mother offers. "Yuck" says her daughter.

"How about a couple raw eggs?" "Gross, Mom!"

"Would you like some flour then? Or maybe baking soda?" "Mom, those are all yucky!"

To which the mother replies: "Yes, all those things seem bad all by themselves. But when they are put together in the right way, they make a wonderfully delicious cake!

God works the same way. Many times we wonder why He would let us go through such bad and difficult times. But God knows that when He puts these things all in His order, they always work for good! We just have to trust Him and, eventually, they will all make something wonderful!

God is crazy about you. He sends you flowers every spring and a sunrise every morning.

Whenever you want to talk, He'll listen. He can live anywhere in the universe, and He chose to live in your heart.

I really like that cake analogy! It is so true.

It is a good analogy, and I am glad this thread is back up.

Welcome! :wave2:

Wow! I didn't realize there were so many other B.A. Christians on the DISboards.

Here's our story in a nutshell. DH and I have been born again for about 8 years now. We both went to church growing up (him Catholic, me Lutheran), but then lost our way when we were teenagers. Those were very dark times for us both as we got into New Age and occult things back then. We came back to God one year prior to us beeing married. DH then changed to Lutheran (by his own choice).

DH was filled with the Holy Spirit many times and on three occassions has talked about my "calling". I've been praying for a while asking God about it ,asking Him where he needs me. DH is involved with Youth Group and I've helped out once. I was told that the girls really took to me since I was the only female youth group helper. I don't know if this is where He needs me or if it's somewhere else. That is what I've been asking God. So far I haven't heard an answer or seen any signs.

Anyone here read Ted Dekker.

I have read Thunder of Heaven, Thr3e, and Showdown. I will be reading Obsession and Monster really soon.

I love how in his books he can weave a tale of Good and Evil, and how nothing is what it seems. Especially in Thr3e and Showdown. I could tell he made Showdown much more religious than he had Thr3e.

I am really upset though, because the movie Thr3e will not be coming to my town.

Haven't read "Monster" yet that he had done with Frank Perretti. I don't know if we have any of Ted Dekker's books or not :confused3 . We don't have too many Christian fiction books, but we do have a lot of Christian non-fiction books.

Mostly we have books by Frank Perretti. I have enjoyed reading "Oath" and the Darkness books. And of course we have the Left Behind series. Just missing the last prequel book (waiting for it to come out in paperback). There are a few others that DH has. Some even with sequels that I'm looking forward to reading.

I need to ask for prayers for my DH, Joseph. He's been battling a nasty cough for the last 3 weeks or so and it has effected his asthma. His lungs have been hurting a lot. He hasn't gone to the doctor's (took a bit of persuasion to finally convince him to go) and she isn't fully available until Thursday. Dh does have some Advair discs left over from the last time he had this. The Advair doesn't expire until this March and his doctor told him last time that if he didn't use all of the discs to hold onto them in case he gets it again (which is now). I've prayed over him twice already, including last night. But I felt that I was having trouble concentrating on it.

DH works at our state university that has a hospital (he's actually 1 floor below the E.R. in the Health Center Library). He called me this morning saying that his lungs were hurting so much that he may need to go upstairs to the E.R. I haven't gotten the call yet on it, but I am worried about him. Please keep him in your prayers.

Thanks! YSIC

Prayers out to you and yours.

Oath was a good book. I really enjoyed it.

Thank you.

Oath was very good. So good that I had a hard time putting the book down. A friend of ours from church was getting rid of some of her old books and suggested I take "Oath" and read it thinking I would like it.

Thr3e and Showdown had that effect on me, though more Thr3e than Showdown. Showdown had some slow parts and really had to make you think about Good and Evil and what leads to it. Thr3e had the same effect, but on a lesser scale.

Anyone ever read any of Bill Meyer's books? I just finished Eli. Wow, what an awesome book. It's about a guy thrown into a parallel universe as Jesus (Eli) comes for the first time... modern day setting. Boy, it sure makes me think!

I almost bought it. Worth the buy?

I read Eli and enjoyed it.

I read one Ted Dekkar book and it was so aweful I couldn't finish it. I wish I could remember the name of it...it had something to do with a girl who was a drug addict and a guy in a big tall business building who was keeping her captive (I think).

I did read Monster and thought it was good too.

I've been enjoying Christian "chick lit" lately by Kristen Billerbeck and others.

I love christian fiction. That's usually the only kind of fiction books I read.

cybrkitn , prayers said.

Monster is a good read, and to be honest
the garbage I lived through in High School
made me want to send a copy to every
principal of every school, elementary on up,
surrounding my town.
Hmm.... Maybe I'll think about following through on that!
