This is for Frank & Jeff and anybody who cares.

Getting my fishin gear together for out March trip to the Keys, the Naples area, St. Augustine's and a final stop at DIS. Yes we are backtracking from St. Augustine to DIS---Important to keep DW happy.

One camera to take pics on the big-one that got away. One kayak, 2 ultra light spinning rods (1lb & 2 lb test), one 7 1/2 ft flyrod, one 9ft flyrod, my flyfishing vest with 100/200 flys, streamers, poppers, two medium action spinning rods 6 1/2 ft, two 7 ft stiff action spinners, one 9ft surf stick and one 12 ft surf stick----Plenty of surface lures, metal spoons, medium and deep diving crank baits, wire leaders, weigths, hooks and an imminent divorce---I can handle the divorce, what fishin gear am I missing.

John,
It sounded to me like you had it covered,,then Jeff came up with the reds'n trout jiggs :thumbsup2,,pretty sure it's covered now.

I would be proud to be a fish'n caddy for you in the Keys,,

but I'd havta sneak outta the house when Denise is asleep.

Hava great trip and catch them swimmers !
Sending all the luck I can muster up your way .

Jeff: I forgot. My son gave me 12 swim baits, assorted sizes. I have never fished one before. He also gave me a bottle of mehaden oil to dunk them in. Jigs, I have plenty---personally prefer shad darts, but I guess 1/4, 3/8 or 1/2 ounce jigs with a squid trailer should do the job.

Frank: I will be extra carefull not to hook up a pelican---Never thought about that happening, till you gave me that tip.

Whatever happened to a cane pole & bobber ? ?
john

Again, "no animals were hurt or injured with this post".

:grouphug:

A group hug for all fisher peeeeples for their tips.

My son also gave me a bunch of Banjo Minnows. He said these are just deadly on bigmouths. Again, the retrieve is important. He said they should work on just about any aggresive fish.

Anybody fish Banjo Minnows and what do you think ? ?

Hard to believe, but you have to glue the eyes on. He said he likes to move up 2 sizes on the eyes. I did that and they look like Eddie Cantor. Most peeeeples out their are saying 'who the H is Eddie Cantor'----Gotta be youngins not to know Eddie.

I have been stuck toooooo long in the dark fishing plain old purple & black pastic worms for large mouths. All this good stuff out in the real world.

Now a mystery of life question ; do these swim baits, banjo minnows, etc. are made to hook the fisherman or do they catch fish ? ? ?

Where did I leave my cane pole and bobbber ?

All this fishin stuff---I will wind up in divorce court if I did not mention mom-mom, my DW and pop-pop me, a Valentines Day present---Emeric John O'Donnell---Sounds pretty Irish to me. Our first boy grandbaby ! ! !

I can really teach the little guy the art of fishin. I will start with 'how to fall in a trout stream (101), on opening day, gracefully'---I was the best at that.

Yeah, I tend to be stuck inna rut when it comes to my fish'n baits and techniques,,need to try new stuff too.
Never used banjo minnows before, (but I have slapped around a few fathead minnows and then used them),,the banjo's look interesting.
I tend to fish live baits, if they aren't hitt'n, and then switch to hard and plastics.

One area if you're in St. Augustine to try is Guana Preserve. It's between the Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic. I was down there in a kayak 2 weeks ago and the reds were swimming in the mouths of the creeks. Caught a few with quartered up crab. Make sure you get the rules for length and how many you can keep. There are some strict laws on reds.

:scared1:

Donnie: Thanks for the tips-----Your right I have to do my homework on Florida salt water fishing rules & regs.

As for keepers I am basically a catch & release guy. So I don't have to worry about that issue. What I have to do is bone up. law wise, stuff like circle hooks vs. J hooks, a hook release (not taking fish out of the water) etc., all that good stuff where the asterisk is in the regs.

I don't want to give the guy with the binoculars (the Fish Warden) a chance to hit me with a ticket. I gotta keep those $$$$$ for the lure that can't miss.
You know that lure, it just caught another fisher peeple (me) and scares the bejeezus out of the fish.
