Border Crossing

I was wondering if anyone has crossed the border with their camping gear? We are debating camping instead of renting a house. I just don't want to spend hours at customs as they rip apart my carefully(with five kids and one mini-van packing is very time consuming) packed vehicle and than having to re-pack.

Also for those that have made the trip how long did it take? I'm in the Toronto area and we figured it would take us about 22 hours. Any suggestions on routes? We were hoping to avoid really large hills as with the vehicle fully loaded it has very little pick up.

Have you considered flying? The time you'll save, the headaches with 5 in a van? We r from Windsor and it's about 17 to 20 hours from house to mouse. Going was fun, coming back was miserable.

The border was no problem for us ever. They welcome you in, you just may have some splaning to do on the way back. Have your ressie's with you or your tickets etc. Have two pieces of i.d. one b/c and the other photo id. for sure and you should be fine.

I recommend dvd players, gameboys, library books on tape, earplugs. It really is an adventure all the way down, but coming home just seems to take forever...

We were thinking about flying out of Buffalo after seeing the prices. But I'm going to be thirty weeks pregnant than so I don't know what the rules are flying while pregnant. Also will they let us take camping gear as luggage?

We drove and camped at Ft Wilderness in May. No problems at the border whatsoever. We've also camped in NY and MI and they usually just ask about food. Camping is a blast at WDW. Check out the camping forum here.
