We head to Buffalo next Wednesday and fly out to Orlando on Thursday I have a question about crossing the border. It will be myself, my girlfriend and her 14 year old daughter. We all have different last names as her daughter has the last name of her biological Dad. Will we have any problems getting over since we will have our passports with us? Is there anything else I should bring along to make sure there is no issues at the border?

No problems. My DD's have a different last name than mine and we also had a friend of DD's. They don't even ask your name- just citizenship.

Since your GF DD is still considered a minor, she may have to have her Custody Papers and a Letter from the BioDad stating that he is letting her go with you.

They may not even ask for it but if they do you should have it handy to show.

We crossed with our two children (12 and 10) in November 2004. We were asked if both children were ours or if there were other parents involved. That was the trip they also asked how much cash we had. When we only said $1,000 that wasn't nearly enough for 3 weeks in Florida! We said we had credit cards and then they let us through !

However, we have crossed many times before and since and had no difficulties. Must have been the particular border guard.

I would get some sort of a letter just to be safe, but don't really fret about it. The daughter is old enough to give reasonable answers to the guard.
