We leave on the weekend and quick question about booster seats and Florida laws.
Ds is 10, about 53 inches, 65 pounds. Dd is 8, 51 inches,90 pounds.

Both are still in their booster seats here,.........wondering if we should bring their seats to Florida, I'm reading so many reports, I'm confused.
Thanks.

no seats needed according to this
http://www.sheriff.org/safety/carseat.cfm

I had no idea they were required to use them at such older ages in other provinces. They are only mandatory up to 8yo in BC.

In BC the law is under 9 years old or shorter than 4 foot 9 must use a booster seat. The OP's youngest would still need a booster here.

As for the actual question, Florida frighteningly enough does not require any sort of restraint other than a seat belt after the age of 3! :scared1:

While the boosters are not required, if it were me, I would still bring one for at least the younger child. The link in the pp talks about how boosters are not required but they are recommended.

Here is a link to a map with all the states and their regulations:

Our son just turned 7 when we went in October. He is tall for his age. We let him do without his booster. Since he isn't required to be in a booster after age 8 in Ontario, we didn't think it was much of a stretch to go without this time. We did take our carseat when he was three though. That's just too young!

Jeez. When did that change? My poor son is going to be in a booster seat forever. :)

July 1, 2008, when the new car seat laws came into effect. CBC.ca

And I know what you mean, my DS turns 8 in July and he only JUST hit 4 feet tall! He still uses a high back booster and will likely use some sort of booster until well past his 9th birthday. Heck, I finally hit 5 ft tall just before my 16th birthday! I'm a little under 5ft 2 and DH is 5ft 6, so we were never going to have a basketball player. :)

So then, if Florida law states children under 3 have to be in a carseat/booster, then when calling a taxi for transfers, would they provide one for a child under that age?

My family is going to Florida, and will need a taxi for 1 day. We will not bring my nieces carseat for 1 day. She is 2 so will technically require one.

The law does not require a seat for a taxi/limo other commercial vehicle.

Thanks for your replies.

In Ontario its 8 or over 80 pounds. Techinically both kids would apply to this, as DS is 10 (but under 80 pounds) and DD is 8 (over 80 pounts).
