Booster seat check in with a ME tag?

We will be taking the ME from MCO to and from our resort on our trip, but we are renting a car for 6 days in the middle and my DS, 5, will need his booster seat. If I check it in on Southwest, it will need a ME luggage tag, right? I called them and they said I could bring it on as a carry on item only if it will fit in the overhead bin and I don't want to take the chance of there being no bins left when I board (even though I have early boarding). And...I dont want to pay like $10 a day renting one from the rental car company.

With earlybird boarding, there is no chance you won't have bin space left. Well, unless every single other person on the plane did and you were the last one to have your boarding pass generated. This possibility, IMO, is very very low. And a booster seat is small and can be fit in.

Who is "them"? SW or ME (I assume SW)? Does the booster have a back? If it does, I don't think it will fit in an overhead bin on the plane. If it doesn't, it should.

I just traveled on SWA with a no-back booster and it was no issue fitting it into an overhead bin. Worst case is you could ask for a gate check, as you would with a stroller.

If you did decide to check the booster and have DME transport it, yes, it would need its own yellow tag. My opinion, though, would be to carry the booster with you.
