Day Five - Friday, November 9, 2001

DD and I wanted more daylight time in World Showcase and since Animal Kingdom was to be only half a day, we planned to head over to Epcot after lunch. Well - you know the story about best laid plans…

We got to Animal Kingdom about 9:30 and stayed until closing. We wandered through side paths and enjoyed it all. While DD and DS rode Dinosaur, Boo and I went to the Boneyard. He looked longingly at one of the shorter slides, but couldn't go through with it. I thought he was and hurried frantically down the ramp to the slide exit, but he was not there. When I called his name, he was right behind me - followed me down the ramp. We then discovered the dig site and spent the next 30 or 40 minutes there ‘til DD came to collect us. He had a ball! As we walked past the slide on our way out, he considered again and with mama on her way to the exit and Nana at the entrance, he braved the longest (and enclosed too) slide he's ever attempted. He was ready to go again and we had to make unfulfilled promises about possible returns to keep him moving.

It was a few minutes after 11:00 and we were all hungry. We went to Rainforest Café for our 11:30 PS and were seated almost immediately. Food was delicious and there was a lot of it. We loved the atmosphere and theming.

We got Fast Passes for Safari, then did Exploration Trail and Rafiki's Planet Watch where we got Rafiki's autograph and picture. DD, DS & Boo also visited the petting zoo. My allergies/asthma kept me from up close and personal contact with the furry animals.

The Safari was fun and Boo enjoyed it - ‘til he fell asleep. He slept all the way through the Jungle Trek in Asia and through DD's & DS's ride on Kali River Rapids. I enjoyed another Mickey bar while waiting with him and accidentally dropped chocolate in his hair, which I did not discover until after it had melted - yuck.

We headed for Tough to be a Bug, but could not get across the street because of the afternoon parade. Boo awoke from his nap just as Mickey was passing in front of us and his first wake-up comment was, "Nana, I did see Mickey." It's Tough to be a Bug was great. The sting got me, even though once again I was supposed to be prepared. Boo even enjoyed it, but without his 3D glasses.

It was park closing time. We had spent the entire day, not just half, and still had not gotten to Camp Minnie-Mickey.

During the summer with high temperatures and high humidity, this park is likely to be unbearable. But this was the most comfortable day we encountered all week.

Back at PO-R, we ate at Boatwrights. Boo and I went to the room for bath and bed; DD & DS to Downtown Disney.

No matter how much you plan, something always happens, doesn't it? Happens to me everytime...You are right about the AK in the summer. We went in June and boy, it's HOT there! We thought it was pretty bad in January too. Sounds like a nice day, looking forward to part 7...
