I have never seen one personally, and I'm a bit skeptical, but deep down, I wonder...... there are soooo many "tales" out there about sighting, occurrences, encounters. All these James Van Praagh & Sylvia Browne types who claim to be able to communicated with deceased spirits.....

What do you think?

I believe that this thread will either 1) be locked due to not being a debate or 2) moved to the community board for same reason as #1

But I deffiently believe it is possilbe that there are "ghosts." I have never seen one first hand, though.

I have seen one once............and wasnt scary........just a bit weird.
Was at a friends house and she made a silly comment......the next thing........and this is where it gets weird....but was like i was watching out the back of my head,,,,saw this guy....and heard the words..'thats what she thinks'.

After several minutes of him sitting behind me smiling I told my friend. She just looked at me as tho i had freaked, I then described him. The outfit and build/description was of her uncle who had died when she was a ten.

Nope, don't believe in ghosts. I believe that angels and demons exist though.

Absolutely!!!
For too many reasons to discuss here! To me, they are just another form of "be-ing". Typically, not bothersome. But, just as there are less-than-positive people, there are spirits who aren't exactly happy. I prefer to focus the on the really uplifting aspects of life and spirituality ie...God, Angels..his other helpers etc... But, darn it, sometimes those spirits just have something to say!!;) Who am I to tell them they might not really exist??!:earseek:

Oh, and yes, I am a certifiably SANE, fully functioning member of society!!!! LOL!!!
:D

For what it's worth. I'll throw my ghost story in here...

It began when we moved into our new house (the house was 3 years old when we moved in). My son was 2 and I was just 10 weeks pregnant with my dd. For the next several months, Zak would say Hi to people we couldn't see (in the house). For instance, we would be sitting in bed, snuggling, and he would sit up, look towards the dormer window and say Hi. Now this is out of a two year old with NO imagination (still has none to this day). We asked him who is there and he said, "Mommy & Daddy ghost".

Just to clarify, we never discussed ghosts with him, nor did he watch any shows like that (he watched Barney, Magic School Bus, etc). So, we just accepted it and acted like it was no big deal. One day, I was sitting at the computer when my dh yelled from the kitchen, "Who bent the door?". Huh? I went into the kitchen and saw that the bottom cupboard door under the sink was bent almost off the hinges!! Ummm... I didn't do that! Zak was two so he had no strength nor the reason to do that! We just looked at each other....

Ok, now onto the good part! One night after my dd was born, we returned from eating out and Zak immediately ran upstairs (he is still 2 at this point!). Dh & I are sitting on the couch in the living room while I nurse the baby. We can hear Zak upstairs talking to the ghosts just as if he is playing with them, "No, don't do that, do this... here, see this?", etc... So, being brave and all, my dh asks Zak if he would like to bring his friends downstairs and he says SURE! So, he comes down to the bottom of the stairs and proceeds to talk to them from the bottom of the stairs looking up... trying to get them to come down. Now, dh and I are getting a bit freaked at the moment. Then, our big German Shepherd LUKE comes around towards the bottom of the stairs and looks up and Zak says, "No, that's just my dog Luke". So, we ask him again, who is on the stairs and he says a Mommy, Daddy and little boy ghost. (Now this gave us chills as we did lose a baby before Zak). So, there we are, the dog and Zak looking upstairs, and dh and I on the couch with goosebumps the size of Mt. Everest!

After a while, as Zak grew up he stopped mentioning this. At one point, after watching Casper at his grandparent's house, he asked if all ghosts looked like that. We told him no, that was a cartoon and left it at that. Ellie never saw anything, but Abby was about 2 when one day she walked out of Zak's room and I asked her who she was talking to (since the other two kids were watching TV) and out of the blue she said, "The Daddy ghost". Caught me WAY OFF BALANCE! But, I said, Cool.

Also, last year, Dh & I were laying in bed, cuddling and talking quietly. We were both facing in towards each other when we heard footsteps come into our room. We rolled our eyes at each other figuring it was one of the girls interrupting. I rolled over to see who was at the edge of my bed and nobody was there! We looked at each other, kinda like, huh??? and I got up to check on the girls. Both were sound asleep in their beds just like they were when we tucked them in. But we both HEARD the footsteps in our room!!!!

OK, I have goosebumps again, do you?

Tomorrow morning I am seeing a Medium in Lilydale, NY (a pretty famous town known for Psychics). I really want to know if we do have guardian angels or "ghosts". I hope to hear from my Mom, Dad and Grandparents through this Medium....

That's my story! I totally believe.

Karen

Absolutely. I don't have any special stories with ghosts but I've had several things happen with the death of a loved one that makes me believe.

zakatak, I have big goose bumps!!

Yes, but never actually seen any.......I think I have heard them though.

DS #2 has a spirit in his house. It doesn't communicate with him but he occasionally sees something and his two dogs also react to it. After he bought his house we were told by someone that they had heard that there was a spirit living there.
Also some friends of ours bought a house and when the mom would put the baby down for her nap she would hear footsteps upstairs. She didn't say anything to anyone but one day her SIL was visiting and she heard them. It really started to spook her. My DH stopped by one afternoon and he heard them. They knew the people that owned the house previously and the man had died there. My DH told him that this was a nice family and that they would take care of the house and to quit bothering them. She never heard the footsteps again!

wow, Karen, that is fascinating! And let us know how it goes with your visit to the medium...I hope you hear from your loved ones.

I've never had any personal experiences with ghosts, but my sister has. I don't really want to get into the details on a public forum due to privacy issues...she and her then-DH definitely do not believe in ghosts or the supernatural, and the situation caused quite a lot of distress. She seems to not like to discuss it, so I don't want to get into it here, but all I will say that it was a series of events lasting months, maybe up to a year and it was beyond weird.

My DH also had an experience when his great-aunt died. He was half-asleep on the sofa after being with her in the hospital when he heard her tell him, of all things, that he'd picked the wrong lottery numbers...he should have picked 1 - 0 - 1. He looked at the clock and it was 2:05. Well, when he woke up the next day, he found that his aunt had passed away around 2:00 am...and, of course, the winning lotter numbers were 1 - 0 - 1! He does not believe in ghosts, ESP, or anything like that. He thinks it's totally ridiculous so I'm surprised he even related this story to me becuase he knows I'd go off on it, but he doesn't like to talk about it anymore either. I guess he doesn't want to admit that there's a possibility he could be wrong. :D

Yes

DIVA OF DRAGONS---I am with you on this one.

When I was pregnant with my DD, we were living in Grand Rapids Michigan.

When I was about 8 months pregnant, I was lying on the couch when I felt a cold wind go by me. I also could smell what I thought was cologne. I asked my DH if he could feel that cold air and he said no. Mind you it was Oct, we had no windows open and I believe our heat was on. I felt the cold again and could smell the cologne.

I just let it go. I thought, if there is someone in the house, they mean no harm. They could have harmed us long ago.

Well...flash forward about a year. We bought a new place. We had to have phone lines put in. The man that came out to put them in started to talk to me. We discussed where we used to live. The house we used to live in was his grandfathers house.

My blood ran cold. He asked if I was okay. I said sure, may I ask if your grandfather is still alive. He said he was, and proceeded to tell me about the history of the house, the house next door and that his mother passed away when he was young.
She had cancer. That young man had spent a lot of time in both homes (right next to each other). I did not tell him what had happened. I should have, but you never know how people will take something like that. He also told me that his mom liked a certain perfume. I think it was her.

I think his mom was just looking out for me while I was pregnant.

Lots of other things have happened to me and my family when I was younger....way too much to mention here.

I believe in ghosts. Several years ago my sister lived with my family. Both her and myself heard our names called when no one else was in the house. I had heard it first but didn't say anything until she told me. Another time my older dd was in kindergarten. We had just come in from shopping and were getting ready for the bus. She was in the front hall. She came in and asked me who else was in the house. I said no one. She told me she saw someone on the stairs. I searched the house but no one was there. Another time when my younger dd was 5 she was sitting with me on the sofa. Out of the blue she asked "whose hand is that?" She could see a hand on the arm of the sofa. That freaked me out big time.

MY niece was heard her name called when she was sleeping on my first floor. My sister, myself and dh have all felt someone touch us when we were in bed. One night our cellar door opened for no reason while we were sitting 5 feet from it.

None of this started until after my mom died. She lived with us for 4 months and then spent her last 6 weeks in a nursing home. So we believe it is mom. Still freaks me out though.

Yes there is no doubt in my mind spirits exist.

My mother always told me stories about the house we lived in when I was a baby. Doors, which were locked, would be heard opening, followed by footsteps heading up the stairs. Odd smells, like a cigar or pipe, would suddenly appear, then go away just as quickly. There was one incident, with my brother, who was staying at the house after the seperation from his wife. Their wedding picture had been hanging on the wall. Suddenly, with no one walking past, no doors or windows open, the picture fell from the wall, leaving one crack, directly down the middle, between the 2 of them. The nail remained in the wall, perfectly straight. My brother joked that he guessed they were trying to tell him something (he never did get back with his wife before he passed a year later).

Personally, I lost a son between my 2 girls. This was shortly after his death. I was really having a hard time dealing with this. I had woken up during the night and glanced down at the foot of the bed. Standing in the doorway was a little boy. I wear glasses so specific features couldn't be made out. My oldest son was 3 at the time, my daughter, almost 18 months. I thought it was him and called him into the room. He didn't respond. I called again and asked what he needed. The boy just backed out of the room (didn't turn and walk...just backed up) I thought this odd and waited a second before I got out of bed. I expected to find my son standing in the hall. He wasn't there. His bedroom door was closed so I opened it and again, expected to see him standing inside the room. Instead, I found him sound asleep in his bed! A bit shaken, I went back to bed. The next morning, I was talking to my DH about this. He looked totally stunned. During the night, he had seen the same little boy in the door way! He too went looking for our son and found him in bed! We are both convinced it was the infant son we lost, just coming to tell us he was ok and reassuring us he is still with us. :)

I'm getting chills from some of these stories. :)

Yep, I believe. No real absolute definite experiences with "ghosts", but I do have one encounter with some kind of spirit that I don't think was good. Actually, I'm sure wasn't. But I don't want to go into the details here -- if you want the story, PM/email me.

My mom does say that the first house we lived in she felt was haunted. We apparently found out years after moving into the house that it had been owned previously by someone who was a member of a cult and they'd have seances (sp?) and such there, and some of the encounters my mom related are rather freaky. I only remember hearing someone walking in the house a few times when my mom and I were in the same room, no pets, and my dad was out of town.

I believe in them and have actually seen one in my first home..

Very strange story.. Numerous times I had seen a shadowy figure in the house.. Mind you we had bought this townhouse brand new.. Once I was standing by the front door, dropped my keys looked up into the partially lit kitchen and there it was. Looked again and it was gone.. It looked very much like a farmer with overalls and a straw type hat... Couldn't make out many features but could tell the shape. There were other times I saw him too, in the laundry room, living room. Always vanished after you noticed it or moved into another room... I never mentioned it to my new wife, figured she would think was I nuts...

Then one day, in the morning in broad daylight my wife and I were laying in bed. Our room was kind of at the end of a little hallway but when you sat up in bed you looked down the hallway... There he was, walked right by the hall going from the kitchen to the Living room.. I looked at my wife.. She looked at me.. We both sat there looking at each other and then both at the same time, "Did you see that?" Well she saw it too!!! We freaked out and got up, no one there.. Then we discussed it.. Seems she had seen it many times in the house and NEVER told me. Descriptions matched. Everything..

It didn't bother me all that much, but it always left an uneasy feeling with my wife. We didn't live there long.. About three years and then bought our current home... Even weirder yet, after we moved out, then people who had visited us there started to tell us that they had seen this 'ghost' in our house, but never told us because they didn't want to upset us.. The townhouse was built on an old farm, and we assume it probably was an old farmer wandering around his property... Oh, we have NEVER seen the same thing in our new house.. (Thankfully, I don't want to have to move for a while :) )

My SIL had poltergeists in her house right after her first husband died in an accident. She had all the classic things, drawers and doors opening and shutting, drapes blowing, windows opening and closing. Very scary things. Loud noises, etc.. At the time people thought she was losing it from her grief and was seeing things.. But her kids saw and heard them too.. So she had other more 'rational people' come over. Her Mother, Father, Cousins, friends all experienced this in that home.. They even had someone come to try and bless the house and they ran out and vowed to never return.. Very freaky stuff, but a number of people confirmed this. After she moved out she found out from a neighbor that a previous owner had died in the home..

So, yes, I do believe..

OK, I have got HUGE goosebumps now... And it is 80 degrees in my house!

I am very excited, yet nervous to go to the Medium tomorrow. I think what I WANT to hear is that my Mom is with me and sees her grandchildren whom she never got to meet. I afraid of being a let down to them by how I've been dealing with their deaths.

Well, I guess I'll find out tomorrow at 10am. Anyone in WNY want to go with me?

Karen

This is where I am going...
