Hello,

I am a teacher & I am in search of a book or video that will teach relaxation and breathing techniques to a child (with autism, but I think this can be geared toward any Elementary school child).

Anybody have any recommendations? We want to teach this child self-coping skills when he is anxious (like breathing or relaxation techniques)

OR, can someone recommend me a good message board of other parents/professionals of children with special needs that I may consult with?

Thanks!

If anyone has or finds a really good video I would able very interested also

This one has great reviews, but it may put them to sleep!

http://www.amazon.com/Indigo-Dreams...bs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1232628581&sr=8-1

I may check this out for DS. He has been having a hard time falling asleep lately. He tells me that his brain goes on overdrive at night, and he has been thinking about upsetting things, including death :sad1: He gets himself really worked up and scared.

I have explained to him that he is in control of his thoughts, and we practice redirecting his thoughts to positive things. It seemed to work last night!

I read about this one & thought the same thing about putting them to sleep!!!

DS's guidance counselor is sending me a copy of the one they just loaded onto the computers at school. She and his para say that it has been working extremely well. They say it's "relaxation and body awareness tracks" on a CD. Can't find the name of it in the email; she got it at a workshop. As soon as I hear back from her (just sent an email) I'll post the name. If it's not offered to the public anywhere I'll be happy to make copies. :goodvibes

Sorry, I didn't forget you. I just received the CD from DS's guidance counselor. I haven't listened to it yet, so I can't really endorse it. When I looked it up online, it appears to be more like a meditation type CD. Anyway, it's called Awareness in Focus. I'll listen to this over the weekend and let you know what I think.

Thank you! I would love to hear your thoughts on this!

I just ordered the following book & curriculum and am currently learning to use it. Anyone heard of these or have any experience?
