I read a few posts on this board that you can book your next DCL onboard and save money. How much of a discount do you get? What happens if you book it and then find it much cheaper? (We went with Costco and they were $800 cheaper then DCL when we booked for a 7day, cat 4). Bottom line..is it really worth doing it at that point?

You save around 10% for rebooking on board and offten get an onboard shipboard credit. When we rebooked I think it was a $200 shipboard credits. If you rebook on board and find a better deal after...you can always cancle your booking with DCL and rebook with whom every you find the better deal.

DCL will let you keep the $200 stateroom credit even if you transfer your res to your own TA....

I'm bumping this one because i would like to know the answer to the above posters question about keepin the stateroom credit also. :teeth:

Here's our experience with booking/rebooking while onboard....

We booked a 12/2005 cruise directly w/DCL in 10/2004. We had gotten prices from Costco as well (and as usual, Costco was cheaper). However, we were sailing in 1/2005, so we were going to try and "rebook" on board to get the 10% discount, stateroom credit, etc. I spoke to the Costco agent beforehand, and they said that they could take over the original booking anytime. For this reason, we didn't book the original res. with Costco knowing that we could always give them the reservation later. Our theory was that we would get the onboard perks applied to our reservation, and then transfer it to Costco for even further savings. In theory, this is a great plan, and for some of you it might even work. For us, however, the price for our cruise went up so much between when we booked it in October and when we sailed in January, that even with the 10% off and stateroom credit, our original quote from DCL was cheaper. Long story short(er), we transferred the original booking to Costco when we got home. Still got the original price that was quoted from Costco, but no onboard perks. I guess what I am trying to say is that if you KNOW when you want to go, book as early as possible, even if you are sailing in the forseeable future. Don't wait until you are onboard, as the price may go up in the meantime. Bring your DCL quote with you onboard, and see if they can do better. If so, take it! If not, you can always transfer your original (cheaper) booking to the TA of your choice when you return.

Here's my experience:

We sailed Oct. 2004 and rebooked onboard for Oct. 2006. Got the 10% off and $200 stateroom credit. When we got home, I called Costco and transferred my ressie. I wound up saving an additional $265 on top of the 10% discount and was still able to keep my $200 stateroom credit too.

We rebooked on board and came home to find that she had booked us for the wrong week...although her paperwork (handwritten) stated the correct week.
We transferred to AAA because they were much cheaper although we lostthe $200 on board credit.

Same thing here. We booked a 4 day in Dec and found when we got home she had booked us for a 7 day in Jan. Transferred to a TA and they were able to change it to the 4 day in Dec and keep our on board credit. Stuff happens. Just very glad I never make any mistakes when punching things into my computer. ;)

When booking on board and then transfering to a TA is there anything that one would receive if they had kept the res w/DCL? I know as a CC member now you still get the return gift is there anything else that DCL does that we'd be missing out of?

You would still get the current/same CC benefits regardless when returning. As long as the ressie is made indicating you're a CC member.

I made ours onboard. we received the 10% off and the $200 credit. I just transferred the reservation to allseasons and received another $200 credit. the rate stays the same and Im hoping closer to sailing I'll be able to snag a fla rate. right now I cant beat the DCL price I received onboard. all of them are at least $300 more than DCL.
