Hello!

When you book, do you book on your own through ABD or through a travel agent? Are there discounts to be had, or does everyone pay "rack rate?"

I just called ABD earlier today to inquire on pricing for the South Africa trip (hoping maybe that there is a discount on the final 2010 pricing, even though the trip doesn't occur until 2011). When they quoted me the price, they didn't even give me a repeat discount of $100 per person as some have received in the past. The new itineraries will be coming out soon (hopefully tomorrow) and nothing has been determined if there will be any early booking discounts or any other type of incentives. My travel agent offered me a $250 discount off our Italy trip, which I'm guessing must have come out of their commission and not from ABD. Unless your travel agent is willing to do something or some other promotion is going on, it's the rack rate for all.

On a side note, I've heard that significant discounts could be offered if you book last minute trips in order to fill up a group. There is nothing in writing about that, but I know it has happened, but I wouldn't count on it.

I call the Costco Travel number to book. It goes directly to ABD, the only difference is you will receive a Costco Cash card for booking through that number. If I need to contact ABD after booking the trip, with questions or to book arifare, I call ABD directly.

Ellie's mom here. We booked through Costco Travel. The call goes directly to ABD and we got a Costco Cash card. Plus we get points/rebate for spending all that money on our Costco Amex.

We book through our travel agent. She offers Visa gift cards for ABD bookings. I have gotten $200-$500 gift cards, depending on the cost of the ABD
