I am a new DVC owner (AUL) and had Sept 21 AKL points transferred to me. I can currently see the points on my dashboard and when I try to book within the 7 month window, I am able to select those points to use for the booking. The problem arises when I try to use the 11 month window. When I tried to book online using the 11 month window for AKL for a June 2022 trip, it tells me that my booking window isn't open yet. I understand that I can use the 11 month booking window for those AKL points. I have a few questions in regard to next steps.

1. Does this mean I would need to call member services to use the AKL home resort window?
2. Am I able to modify this reservation online if and when member services books it for me?
3. Any tips, tricks, feedback on how to handle these transferred points?

It is my first time booking with transfer points so I am quite green. I tried searching for answers online and I thought there were changes in Oct 2020 which would allow me to book, but perhaps I am mistaken. Thanks in advance!

You need to call MS for the 11 month booking with transfer points right now. I had OKW points transfered and was unable to use them on my own online. Hopefully the website update will make online booking possible at the 11 month mark. I didn’t need to modify my reservation so I’m not sure if there’s issues with that once it’s booked by MS.

Yeah, same here with transferred Grand Cal points. They showed up (which I was surprised/happy about, this was the first time I could see the points), I could use them at 7 months, but not 11. When I called MS they said it was a known "issue".

Its good that you can see them now, but needing to call means they can't be used on the very most difficult bookings to get.

The only way you can book online with transferred points currently is if the points came from a member with ownership at the same DVC property as you AND the same UY.

That may be the case at 11 months but at 7 months you can book online with any transferred points.

Interesting. I had same UY but not a resort I own at and could only book myself at 7 months. So that is consistent.

so strange they couldn’t get this working properly when they made the points viewable (which was a huge improvement).

I have transferred in points that I was able to use online to book at the 11 month window. Transferred points are even a different use year as mine. Hopefully the update fixes all of these inconsistencies!

My opinion is it is set up this way because of OTU points which now can be used online

I wonder if they simply didn’t want a system that allowed owners who by those to have a loophole to home resort advantage as you never know which resort they will be for when they load them.

I transferred in points RR eligible points to my resale membership. Would not let me book at RR with those points. After many phone calls, a supervisor moved the points to my direct membership and I was able to book online at seven months. I suspected it would be an issue so I tested it once the points were good even though my trip was later in the month.

Now that is an interesting development. I think many believe that RIV would be an option if the points were valid.

But sounds like a restricted membership is restricted from even getting points eligible

Thanks for sharing!!
