We are taking our first Disney trip in March 2012. I was wondering if you book through an agent like Small World vacations, can you still make payments like you would booking through Disney? Or do you have to pay the agent up front?

It varies, so ask the agency you are planning on using. For some cruises we have put down a deposit and paid the balance by a certain date using a travel agent.

With Small World we paid the initial deposit on the day we booked and then made a few payments until it was done. This was in 2008 so I can't remember if I sent the payment to them and they passed it on to Disney.. I *think* that's how it worked but I'm not sure.

We are using Small World. Disney requires a deposit and then the final payment due 45 days before your vacation. So yes, you can make payments with them. ;) If you ask for a quote, the TA that responds to you should give you all of that info.

It will depend on the TA. If you go thru websites like Expedia or Hotwire, or an airline travel company like Southwest Vacations then you will need to pay the entire amount when you book your trip.

A regular TA like Small World will act as your go-between with Disney. Unlike Expedia or Southwest, you will get a Magic Your Way Package that is just like what you would get if you booked with Disney yourself. The terms for payment and cancellation should be the same as Disney's.

Just make sure that you understand what the conditions are before you book.

With Small World, yes you can. I just booked with them yesterday for a cruise, paid the deposit and then set up for monthly payments to be applied to my CC. As the agent explained, they just make the payments for you to Disney..charges on the CC will show Disney..the money never actually goes through Small World's hands. They had the exact same price as Disney for the cruise, the only benefit was more onboard credit.
I was on an Adventures by Disney Backstage Magic trip with Sue, the owner, a few years ago, and she's a nice gal. My agent for the cruise is Lynne.

themagicforless.com is a Disney approved agency, and you just pay the usual $200 down, then payments until 45 days before your trip.

We've worked with Cindy several times, and she is simply fabulous! She has even fixed problems we've run into while we were AT Disney!:thumbsup2

If you decide to use this agency, I can highly recommend Cindy (cindy@themagicforless.com)...if you use her, you can use me as your referral (I think they ask, if I remember correctly)....Laura Ross. I do get a $25 dollar gift certificate, but I recommended Cindy long before I even knew that!:)
