booking window/points question

I booked 1 bedroom SSR using my all my SSR contract points from Dec 7-14, 2013 I'd like to check availability at 7 mos for a EPCOT area DVC resort, I know it will be unlikely as this is popular time for DVC.

I also have available to use my ALV contract points.

My first question is: Should I first and am I allowed to attempt to book EPCOT area DVC using my AKV contract points. If I get an EPCOT area resort on AKV points then I would cancel my SSR reservation.

I am worried that if I cancel SSR reservation prior to and nothing else is available, then I will be out of luck, as I know this is a busy week for DVC.

My second question is, if I can book on AKV points at a EPCOT area resort and have not cancelled the SSR reservation, can I then have DVC change the points back to SSR points rather than use AKV points ? As I'd rather use up my SSR points and save AKV points for when I am staying at AKV. Not a big deal if I can't but thought I'd ask the question.

Your best bet is to call member services rather than use online if you see availability.

Yes, you can make a new reservation online and then cancel the existing reservation online. I would only do that if I did NOT have to borrow points to make the new reservation.

Probably, but you will have to get MS to do it and you may need to ask for a Supervisor.

I was just on the DVC site & both BCV & BWV have 1BDR availibility for that time. We own at both & are looking for a studio at AKV Jambo that same week. If you could check for me that be great. Maybe we could work something out. Good Luck.

Be aware that you are correct that it will likely be difficult to get any near park resort for Dec 7-14 at 7 months out although your chances tend be somewhat better when seeking a 1BR. Also be aware that SSR is always open at 7 months out including that time of year and thus you have little risk of ending up with nothing if you cancel and try to re-book because you will be able to turn around and re-book SSR.

If you have enough AKV points to reserve at 7 months out and do so and then cancel the SSR reservation, they will allow you to flip the points in the reservation because it was made at 7 months out or less, but you need to call MS to accomplish that.

We are still waiting on our seller to send back their closing docs. Very frustrating as the title company has had ours for 1.5 weeks. We want to go XXX and looking for XXX XXX We just want to know if we will have any options?

Sorry, but the DIS moderators have asked us not to check on availability if you cannot book. It pretty much is a waste of time.

I can only imagine how frustrating it is but we have asked members not to check and post availability since it changes so frequently, that unless you are ready to book, the information is not really helpful.
