Booking VB at 7 months out - SSR or VB points to add?

Please bear with me, I know you should always buy where you stay but I want to see what people's opinions on the below are:

We just stayed one night at VB and liked the resort quite a bit - we are sure there must be something we missed since we could not find anything wrong with the resort...

Anyways we would almost always vacation at either Christmas time or March break time (think Dec 21-Jan 3 period or somewhere in there and March 5-15 period roughly)

In terms of accomodation we would need a 1 or 2BR and even a Studio would be ok as well occassionally

Cost of points not a big issue nor are mtce. fees but I do realise that mtce. fees at VB are higher

Do we buy SSR points and book into VB at 7 month window for the times we want to go there OR do we need to be buy VB points since the times above really require the 11 month window?

Perhaps this will help. In trying to book our last vacation in the 11 month window prior to the 7 month window, the only DVC resort that was full during spring break was Vero. All the other DVC resorts had availability. My opinion is that many Northerners like the Vero Resort for Christmas Break and Spring Break for the possibility of nice weather (not always guaranteed) and the absence of park crowds. If you want to stay at Vero during those peak times, you may need Vero points to do so.

As you probably know there are many VB resales available. I would have concerns about resale if I bought VB (I understand that you can pass ROFR at VB at $58-$60). The price is right but difficult to sell? I saw someone post that cash rooms $100-$125 per night. If that is correct then it might not be the best use of your points vs. WDW where the same points gets you a $200+ room. I can't speak to the availability issue but it seems that room are available at 7 months. I also think OKW is a better point value than SSR (I don't put a lot of value on the extra 12 years).

Jason,
If you are mainly going to stay during x-mas and spring break.......I would suggest to buy a re-sale at VB. The 11 month window will come in handy for your peak times that you say you will be at VB.

Do you already own a home resort at WDW? If you do, you already have the 11 month window for on-site at WDW.You can always get in SSR and OKW at the 7 month window because they are the largest . Thats why we own at OKW and VB......to have the 11 month window at both places(ocean front and WDW)....if needed.
