Booking using developer points?

We joined DVC last summer. Our home resort is AKL. We bought 160 points and we got 160 developer points. We were told we could not use our regular points until May of 2009 as Kidani Village would not be done until then. I just tried to book a vacation for June of 09 using our developer points and was told that I could only use the developer points at SSR. We were never told that when we bought into DVC. I am very upset about this because we bought into AKL because that is where we wanted to be. I have a family of five, and SSR does not have sleeping accommodations for five unless you go to a two bedroom, which of course costs more points. I was wondering if anyone else had this experience or was explained that developer points are only good at SSR? This is our first experience using DVC, and it is very disappointing!

I purchased in June and was clearly told that the only DVC property I could use the developer points at was SSR. Look at your contract and see what is says, because some people were able to use their at DL and I couldn't since I got developer points with Jambo not Kidani. The contract spells out where you may use the points. There were different resorts depending on when you purchased.

The paper work I got from DVC was quite clear about using the developer points.
They can be used at SSR (using the 7 month booking window) Disneyland resorts and Interval International Exchange Program.
It is stated in the Vacation Option Agreement.

same here...guide and paper work was very clear about SSR at seven months...so sorry that you had a bad experience.

I agree with all the previous posters. I just booked SSR for June 2009 using my developer points. My guide, Frank Perez, was very clear about how to use the developer points. No problems booking this morning at SSR for 5 nights.

We just closed on our first DVC purchase on 11/3 and we received developer points also. Our guide was very clear that these points could only be used at SSR.

We closed in July and were also told the DPs were only good at SSR, but later found out you could also use them at DL.

Check your contract; its written right in there ...The Developer Point restrictions are right in there..
Aren't most DP's to be used within the yr and used at either SSR, 3 Disneyland Hotels, or Interval International? If you choose to initiate a search within Interval International you have 2 yrs..

We just bought in Sept. and our guide was very clear that Developer points were only for II, SSR, and Disneyland. It also states it in our contract, I went back to check. I am so sorry you are bummed. I was so excited because eventhough its at SSR it meant I could book 3 trips btwn now and December 2009 - rough life!!!!

For those that have used DP - I have yet a few remaining, and want to make the best use that I can of them, but want to know if there is a distinction between use them within a year or if the points are booked within that year? For example DP year 8/21/08 through 8/21/09. If I could squeeze in another couple days but after 8/21/09 would I not be allowed to use the points, or as I would be doing the booking at the 7 mo mark, would it be allowable??
