I was looking at booking a 10 day trip thru west jet in December. It was cheaper to plan and book everything thru west jet than to split the cost between an airline and disney. Halifax to Toronto to Orlando, Has anyone else ever booked a complete Disney vacation thru west jet? I was also wondering if i have to claim my bags when i get to Toronto and again in Orlando or if west jet and Disney look after everything?

We originally booked our trip through WestJet. I would not do it again.

They charge you a fee (I think $75/person) for any changes to your reservation. We wanted to upgrade from a value to a moderate, they would do it for a $150+tax.

A few weeks later I found I could get the flights (through travelocity) and the reservation for hotel+dining+tickets through disney for less money (including cancellation fee) and we would be there an extra day.

We decided to cancel the westjet vacation when we called they said they would cancel all but the Magic your way tickets ($1000) were non-refundable. It is written in the agreement, (we found out later) but it is hidden in with other information no where near the cancellation information. We had called WestJet the day before to make sure that the only fee that would be charged would be the $75/person, and the rep said yes that would be the only charge. There was no mention of non-refundable MYW tickets, and she brought up our reservation in the system when we asked.

While we were not happy we said fine we would take the Magic Your way 7 day tickets and cancel the rest. That is when they told us that while they are non-refundable they will not provide them outside of the package. So you have to pay for them but they will not give them to you.

After many calls we finally found a manager who agreed to refund the total.

So based on my experience I would not book the package through WestJet vacations.

There also some benefits with booking through disney directly you can change your reservation with no penalty(I have read sometimes they will charge you $10) You can also easily book your ADR's online now and do online check-in.

Check flights out of Bangor or Portland you can save lots of money if you want to fly out on Maine.

We booked our trip last year with Maritime travel, but for our trip for next year I will probably book with Fairytale Dreams and Destinations. I have heard so many good things about this agency.

Last month my family and I booked our flight on WestJet from Toronto - Orlando for this December, however we had already made our WDW reservations a few weeks earlier. We also took advantage of the option to pay extra for our seat assignments, so we decided to go for the exit row which was $15.00 extra per person to get some more leg room.

Also when you land in Toronto you need to collect your bags before checking clearing US Customs, however the baggage claim area for anyone on a connection in Terminal 3 is right by the main check-in area before clearing US Customs. So here is a link to a video about connecting from a flight landing in Pearson and then flying to the United States. To watch it click Terminal 3 Connections and then click Canada to U.S.

I do agree that West-Jet cancellation policy is a little funny but with that being said we have booked our last three trips with them and never had a problem, flights have been great and ontime, our room requests are always noted when we arrive and tickets/dining plan all acounted for. Sometimes it is just easier to let someone take care of all the details.

We have booked our last 2 trips through westjet. One from halifax and one from Moncton. No problems either time. we made no changes to i can't comment on the difficulty in doing so.

As far as bags go, you'll likely have to claim them in Toronto and pass through customs there. After that, Disney takes care of them.

However, when we flew direct from halifax, we cleared customs in halifax and didn't touch our bags again until be saw them in our room

Thanks everyone for your help but i have one more question should i register my camera at the customs office in the Halifax airport or should I do it at my connection in Toronto?

To the OP, I assume when you land in Orlando that your taking Magical Express because you asked if you also need to pick up your bags when you land there. If you are in order to have your bags sent to your WDW Resort room you need to attach the yellow luggage tags onto your checked bags, because if you don't then they will be sent to the baggage claim carousel.

why do you need to register your camera ??

If you have an expensive item (electronics, jewelry, etc) and you cross the border, it is possible that canada customs will think you bought the item in the states. In that case they can ask you to pay duty when coming back to Canada, if you do not have the receipt. I don't know how often this happens, but I know that when I bought my (very expensive) flute, I was told to get a "green card" for it. I just brought the flute to a customs office where I lived and got a card with a description and serial #. That way I don't have to take the receipt with me when I travel with it, just the card. If the customs agent sees my flute and thinks I am trying to bring it across the border without paying duty, I show the card to prove I owned the flute before leaving the country. I assume they'd only do this if they saw an item and it looked brand new, or they had some other reason to be suspicious of you. But for some things, better safe than sorry (especially if you did buy said item in the states and did not pay duty in the first place...:rolleyes1)
