Booking the vacation

This is our first time to disney (family of 4) and was wondering if I could get some input on booking the vacation. We have decide to stay at POFQ but I was wondering if its best to book through an agent, disneyworld web-site or one of the "big name" web based travel agents? I did a "apples" to "apples" comparison between the disneyworld site and one of the "big name" web sites and disney was higher by abour $800.00. Looking to get some direction from the veterens. Hi, I booked our trip last year through Magic for Less Travel. They were great and yes, less expensive than going through Disneyworld.com.

We went through AAA and got some great discounts. We have a great TA and she did it all, Air, POR ressies for 9 days, a special surprise for my DH, (I don't want to say what on these boards in case he's lurking)LOL. Transportation on the Magical Express, etc. Can't say enough good about her.

I like to book my WDW vacations myself. I want to have complete control over my vacation. I have also found that by reading these boards and checking out the Special Offers on the www.disneyworld.com website, I can find out about any discounts being offered during our stay.

I have read many posts that sing the praises of their travel agent but I have read an equal number saying how frustrated they were at having to go through their travel agent every time they wanted to make adjustments or ask questions.

Yes, yes, yes I am booked through Dreams Unlimited with Marla too. She is great! I have booked myself and through AAA. AAA didn't thrill me. Marla has offerred to make our ADRs and MNSSHP for us. I love not having to make the million phone calls myself!

My most important suggestion would be to do a TON of research. And ask a lot of questions. These boards have a lot of great information that could lead you to discounts you weren't even aware of.

When are you considering going? If your dates are flexible, you can get a really good deal. Also, are you flying in? Renting a car? Etc?

The more info you provide, the better answers you're going to get.

For our last trip I used a lot of information that I discovered right here on these boards.

The first time that we went, we booked through AAA. Overall, the price was about the same as if we went direct to Disney, but we got some free stuff in the process (Luggage, Disney Dollars, etc.)

The second time we went throught a travel Agent that specializes in DIS vacations and this went very smoothly. Usually, the ones that specialize know about codes and tricks to get the lowest price possible.

The other thing to consider in packaging flights with your DIS package. The Disney site as well as other Websites has been known to offer some discounts on flights when packaged with your vacation, but it usually not a lot (about $80 in my case) and it does not offer any flights with some of the low-price carriers (read as Southwest).
