Booking The Beak & Barrel week of Aug. 18th!

Yes is a major consumer of Cloud based service. They bought the Cloud story line, and move from their dedicated Data Centers to the Cloud. They have been paying for that major mistake for years, and will continue to do so for many more years.

The original cost metrics they were sold were widely incorrect. Usage based billing vs dedicated private resources, that they could deprecate then replace.

It's a story I've heard and seen often through DH and I'm sure it will continue to get more expensive until they get more nuclear power plants on line to lower the energy costs.

To bring this full circle back to Disney, just like the airlines, they would need to heavily invest in their infrastructure and bring most IT in house with good pay/benefits to have the website/app service we think should be standard. That's a lot of money without obvious returns on a spreadsheet and would be a hard pitch to shareholders. I get why Disney's online products are less than stellar, I don't agree with it, but I get it.

For ticketed events, couldn’t Disney come up with a system that allows guests to make a reservation based on their ticket date ?

For example: Guests attending MNSSHP on dates 8/19 - 8/29 can make their ressies on 8/18. 9/2-9/13 on 8/19, and so on until 10/31. All other dates outside of the appropriate date range will be blocked out.

It seems like this would give everyone a fair advantage and not tax the system at the same time.

I don't think reservations are limited to those with party tickets though. You need a party ticket to dine from 7pm on but anyone can make an earlier reservation.

I have been following along with sympathy for you all but I gotta ask. I have been on the waiting end of ADRs many times. I remember calling in at exactly 7AM in relentless pursuit of an elusive ressie that I HAD to have! But I don’t get it here. I know it’s new and shiny but at the end of the day isn’t it just a bar with a few snacks? Can you explain the fascination?

I wouldn't say it's something I "have" to have, but I have a trip in September so why wouldn't I want to experience something new while I'm there as opposed to just doing things I have already done multiple times?

I love ogas cantina and it's one of my favorite things to do while visiting, having that same experience but pirate themed sounds really fun.

Also, try he reason so many people are "obsessing" is because of Disney failure to do a smoothe rollout to get a reservation. So now people are watching this like hawks because of a)demand and b) not knowing when exactly reservations open up

What's everyone's plan for the morning? I feel like I'll grudgingly get up and be ready just in case "week of Aug. 18" is Disney-speak for 6am Eastern on Aug. 18. I'm so invested at this point that I'd hate to miss it. And I'm with you, @sdc10 , it's not that our trip will be ruined or anything if we don't get this reservation, but I'm excited to try something new, and we love Pirates (and Oga's is our HS closing tradition - we love it, too!).

Pirates.

I gotta agree, requiring tickets or park res for APs for ADRs would be a pretty basic way to cut down the nonsense ADR grabbing.

I find Disney’s reservation system fascinating in a waiting for the train to crash manner. Been that way since I started visiting and still remains the same🤷🏽‍♀️.

Unless that pirate is Johnny Depp, I still don’t see getting up in the middle of the night & refreshing for hours. WDW has lots of nice bars that don’t require this kind of commitment.
And nobody is asking you to, nor did anyone ask your opinion on how you felt about this. There's probably tons of things you enjoy about Disney that others don't.

Does anyone think they are going to announce what day they are releasing the reservations? I have a feeling they are just going to drop unannounced at some random time this week.

I wonder about this, too! Scott Gustin said last week that the date will be shared before bookings open, but who knows?

Wow, this is an on line forum. It’s ALL ABOUT OPINIONS. I don’t think I’ve been rude, demeaning or disrespectful. In fact, my first post explained that I get anxiously waiting for a coveted ADR. I was asking why this one. No need to be rude.
