Thinking way ahead into the future for the next trip whenever that may be...

There's no special procedure for booking a split stay is there, like being able to have more than one hotel on the same booking? You literally have to make two bookings, the first one as a package probably with a 7 or 14 day ticket to cover the entire length of stay even if the hotel stay isn't for that long, then make a second room-only reservation. The second hotel isn't actually linked to the first in any way.

No special procedure. Just make sure that you book the package with the tickets for the first part of your stay.
