Booking Split Stay?

I’m wanting to make sure I understand how this works. We are new DVC (VGF2, 150p) and I want to book a December trip, studio. 2 or 3 days at GF, and 2 or 3 days at another area. Preferably BWV RIV or BCV.

I looked, and availability is pretty bad for studios, and I’m wanting to do my “Epcot area” part of my stay Dec 24-26

I know 7 months will hit and what is available will be gone fast.

I went ahead and booked VGF studio room for 21-25 just in case I can’t get anything 24-26.

So how do I do this? Do I have to modify the first reservation down to the 24th before booking 24-26 and hope I don’t lose everything? I can’t book the 24-26 without borrowing points (I have 20 points left for 2022 after a short July trip and the Dec 21-25 booking) but that is a really bad idea right? I really don’t want to do the entire stay at VGF, but doing 7 month at Christmas seems risky.

When you know you want to split stay, it’s best to book it that way from the start so you can just modify right away or waitlist just what you want.

So, I would adjust what you have so you have VGF in two reservations now, 21 to 24 and 24 to 26.

Then, when the 7 month window opens, just modify the one to where you’d like and waitlist just that. This way, you are not losing time canceling the night first and modifying is all or nothing.

If things never come through, then you can have them merge things into one stay for you at VGF. I do this all the time.

My advice is to make 2 reservations at VGF now. One for the first part of your stay and the other for the nights that you would like to stay elsewhere. Then when the 7 month window opens for the 2nd reservation you can go online and modify it for the resort you want to stay at, assuming that it's available.

If it's not available, you can create a wait list for those nights and specify that if it comes through it should replace then 2nd reservation at VGF.

But you're going at a high-demand time and studios are hard to come by even at 11 months for some resorts. If the wait list doesn't come through, you will still have your nights at VGF. You can always try to book different resorts another time.

Okay thank you, that makes sense. Initially when we bought, our travel has always been the 1st or 2nd week of January. But with my husband’s work change, we have to move the trip up. I am having a hard time mentally with the cost of Christmas Eve/Day at VGF, and would rather move down a price range.

Put in a waitlist to get it, but keep looking, too. (We call that 'stalking'). It's just the two nights and there is still several months for something to work out. Good luck!

OP owns VGF and can't wait list either BRV or CCV for late December yet.

Of course, you are correct. I misunderstood OPs post. IN preparation for the 7 months booking, I thought he/she went to modify the one VGF reservation from 4 nights to two reservations of 2 nights each and lost the second portion.

Yeah I did put a waitlist for the lost days. I went ahead and booked Pop… just in case it doesn’t work out.

You are correct. I lost my VGF for the second portion. I’m sure the WL will work out, and I suspect something will be open still for the 24/25, if not, I booked Pop as a back up.

Another ting to keep in mind is making dining reservations. Split stays are treated as 2 separate trips so you will so you will have to wait for each respective 60 day window to make those reservations.
