If I book a room only reservations (for Aug 5-12) then decide to upgrade (because of a wonderful promotion - more specifically - free dining/free ticket upgrade) - I know that Disney will allow me to upgrade but will they just simply apply my room only AAA amount (I am going to pay in full for the whole week) - or will they cancel the whole reservation, refund my money and make me start all over again with a $200 deposit with a package w/dinning. I hope this makes sense. I'm weighing the pros and cons of booking this early - I want to go ahead and pay for this trip. I already purchased my 7 day hopper tickets via ticketmania.com. But its no big deal for me to sell these tickets on ebay if a great package is offered.

I actually just had to do this, but for different reasons. I thought that I would be able to just modify my reservation myself online, but wasn't able to so I ended up calling in to talk to a live person. They were not able to just modify and had to cancel the whole thing and start over including refunding my original deposit. The woman I spoke to was very helpful and it was a quick and painless process. Hope this helps you out and good luck with your trip :)

You cannot change a room-only reservation. You have to make a whole new reservation. Also, you're taking a chance that the availability won't be there. I would go ahead and book a package (with room and at least one day of tickets) and then you can add the dining plan later.

What do you mean by this statement.....

If I already have a room only - I cancel. They immediately (it takes a few days) refund my monies. I immediately make a new reservation, I can either put the $200 deposit down right then and there for a package or wait the 14 days grace - get my refund then apply that money to my reservation. I would then sell my already purchased 7 day disney hoppers on Ebay. And then apply that money to my account and I end up (possibly) saving a few dollars. If I understand it correctly. So I'm a little confused about your statement. Are you saying that Disney only allows so many free dining packages (if free dining was offered)?

I'm saying that if there are no more rooms available at that resort, you'll have to change resorts and/or upgrade.

In 2005 we had a room-only reservation. At the time, I was told I could change it to a package if I decided to. When I finally decided to do that, I was told I had to make a whole new reservation. Unfortunately, there were no more rooms available at Pop. In order to get the package, I would have had to move to a moderate or deluxe, which was more money than I wanted to spend.

Edited to add: if you originally book a package with at least one-day tickets, you can add the dining plan later (either free or paying for it). You're not making a whole new reservation that way.

We are planning on going the same week as you! I am waiting for the release of Free dining. Do you know if Disney will do the free dining. We went last year 8/13 - 8/20 with free dining!!

We can't wait till August!!

GO BEARS TOMORROW!!!

I hope so too - Did you already book a package or a room only or will you wait?

The amount of rooms they offer at a discount is limited. When they reach that limit the discount is not available for that type of room at that location. Having a room only reservation will not guarantee that you will be able to convert to the special package.you will have to cancel the room only and book a whole new package. A package will be easier to convert to a new package You will have to pay attention to to the specials or have a travel agent that will.Even if you already have a package booked, availibility will be limited and having the package booked will not always mean you will be able to get the resort or room type you picked originally.:)

TA told me that cancelled room-only AAA ressies are not necessarily "put back into the AAA pool"...

as in they revert to rack rate rooms.

She further stated that it's always easier for her to book a package than room only for some reason, even at last minute.:confused3
