I haven't done it because I don't feel it's a good deal for most. I use RCI extensively otherwise using both better and cheaper options. The good about DVC is that the fees are lower than RCI directly, you can do request first and you have no ongoing membership fee.

The bad includes:
  • Only a segment of the RCI resorts are available.
  • No direct access to RCI (either online or by phone)
  • worse cancelation policies than using RCI directly.
  • You're almost always trading down.
  • DVC points are fairly liquid making renting them out and paying cash often both better AND cheaper.
  • Relatively poor trading power historically, it's hard to know under the new system and is likely better with RCI than it was before with II.
  • No ability to trade up in unit size.
  • Almost no ability to control what you deposit or it's cost.

IF you want to use it, investigate the resorts. You should only be trading DVC to places (and times) that are both high demand in RCI and high quality to get a reasonable value. I was in MX for 2 weeks around the same time as rentayenta in a resort at least as nice and my total cost for the 2 weeks was around $6-700 including accounting for my purchase costs, yearly dues, RCI membership and exchange fees.
