I wonder if any of you experts have experience with this?

We have a category 3 booked with 3 adults in it.

I want to move the third adult to their own room, the DCL website says there are category 9's still avail for our cruise.

Will DCL charge me for "cancelling" out of the first room? Or can I just pay the extra and move that person to the new room?

Thanks for any advice!

Susy

We were able to move DD from my parents room, and add her to ours with no penalty. Just realize that it is more expensive for an adult to be in their own room. The price per person drops when there are 2 adults in the room.

If I understand the question correctly you are keeping the Cat 3 and adding a cat 9 and moving one person to the cat 9?

As long as the person moving is not the first name on the reservation for the Cat 3 there should be no "Cancellation" fee. However, the person moving to the Cat 9 will be paying 175% of the per person charge for that cabin. The per person charges are always quoted as "double occupancy" so there is a single surcharge. The two people left in the Cat 3 will also most likely have their per person cost increased as well because the 3rd and 4th persons in the cabin are usually charged a lower rate than the first two.

Sandy,

Yes, that's exactly what I meant.

That sounds expensive!!!

I didn't know the price of the category 3 would go up, I knew that one person in a category 9 would be expensive.

Has anyone else ever done this? Maybe I should just bring someone else along!!! If it's only 25% more, that's what it seems like you are saying.

Thanks for the info, it's saturday and TA is closed and I really want to figure it out.

Thanks!

Susy -

I hope you didn't misunderstand me. The cost of the first 2 adults in the Cat 3 is always the same whether you have two or more in the cabin. It becomes more expensive on a per person basis if there are only two people.

Lets do some math - FOR THIS PURPOSE ONLY - NOT REAL COST

If there are three people in the Cat 3 and the first two pay $2000 each and the third one pays $1000 the per person cost is $1666.66 ($5000/3). If there are only two in the cabin the per person cost is $2000.

Now a Cat 9 may only be $1000 per person so a single in the cabin would be approximately $1750 for one but if you book two in the cabin it would be $1000 each.

Hope that helps. If not PM me and I'll keep trying.

When I go alone I book at Cat 11. It is an inside cabin but I only use it to primp and sleep so it doesn't bother me and it keeps the cost down. There are so many public areas on the ship that do not seem crowded I can hang out there if I don't want to be in a cabin. I was upgraded to a cat 9 once and I didn't use the cabin anymore because I had a port hole. It is a personal preference but considering the difference in price it really makes a difference if you are paying for the cabin alone.

Sandy,

Thanks so much for your help!

The DCL site quoted me, 3100. for one person in category 9

4100. for two people in category 9

I wonder how much I already paid for her as a third person in our category three? And if they will transfer that over to a new ressie?

Our TA is closed on the weekend - annoying! And after checking all day that there was one category 9 left (room 2532), when I checked again just now, it was gone from DCL website! SO maybe somebody took it and there and no rooms left? That would be a drag.

We have 18 people going and I just realized today that I messed up the sleeping arrangements and need an extra bedroom.

What are the chances of something opening up between now and our august 13th sail date? Must be slim.

Thanks for all your help!

Susy

Suzy -

DCL should be open on Sunday. Due to the closeness of the trip I would call and see what they can do for you since you want another cabin. You can always transfer the new reservation to your travel agent on Monday.

Since you are well into the cancellation pentalty phase for that cruise I doubt that people are going to be cancelling. It could be that the web site isn't showing availability due to it beings two weeks until departure. Since you just want to move someone that already has a reservation it is not the same as someone new being added to the roster.

Good luck.

Sandy,

Will DCL help me? Whenever we called DCL direct before, they always say we have to deal with out original TA.

Thanks,

Susy

Susy,
DCL may not adjust your current reservation but they should allow you to reserve another room. You can always transfer the new reservation to your TA later. We did that for our cruise when SPH rooms became available on a weekend.

But how can I make a new res if DCL won't move the name on my old res to a new room? Going to try DCL now, will keep you posted.

Thanks to all for your help,

Susy

Holy cow!! That's close to what I'm paying for 4 of us in a Cat 11 for 7 nights!

Why can't you book another room under your name as well (if one's available) rather than "moving" your name? Or you could call using the information from the person you're booking it for. Or they could call themselves. Then transfer it as others have said.

Good luck :wizard: and have a great cruise! :boat:
