Booking question - cash/points

I'm waitlisted for VWL the first week in Dec. Just checked the Disney site and you can book a studio for that week for cash. I understand that these are Disney's "points" for them to rent out. Here's my question.... if they do, when would they let the waitlist have these days?

Not sure when they would release the points, but about a week ago, we needed to extend our stay at WDW on points. We called MS when they opened (2 hours before we had to check out of SSR) and were able to get a one bedroom at BCV for the next three nights. We had tried in January to get the week in BCV and nothing was available. I bet there were rooms available for cash and we got them on points.

Seems like I remember reading on this board that 30 days out - all villas are up for grabs if they have not been rented out. So things that are available only for cash through CRO can be used with points at that time. Hopefully someone "in the know" will post to confirm or deny this.

I don't think this is quite true.

Perhaps you are remembering that rooms that are unreserved for points at the 60 day mark get "shared" with CRO. But DVC members still have the ability to reserve them. This doesn't apply in this case, because there are no unreserved points rooms for the time twotoohappy is looking for and the 60 day mark isn't here yet anyway.

AFAIK, once a room goes into the cash inventory due to a member trade (the reason most DVC resort rooms are available for cash), it is not available to DVC members on points.

I have read that sometimes, MS can "get a room back" from CRO, but this is generally only done at the very last minute and is because the room will otherwise go empty. (It is not very likely that any room at the VWL in December will go empty).

twotoohappy - The availability for cash has nothing to do with your waitlist chances. Cash rooms do not go to the waitlist. IMHO, your best chance for the waitlist to work will be at the 31 day mark. That is when anyone who has a reservation will likely cancel if their plans are not firm (to avoid points going into the holding account). Good luck - hope the waitlist works for you.

Just wanted to let you know that I was waitlisted for 1 night at BWV for 12/7, and it just came through the end of last week.

I also have a cash reservation for 12/3, when I made the reservation, the cash discount was not available. When I called back to tell them I wanted the waitlisted room, I inquired about the availability of the DVC discount for that night and it was also available.
