Hello,
I have been to Disney before but have never booked with Disney itself, have always used Expedia for our vacations.I booked a preferred room, when I booked with expedia last year & we was right in front of the pool in the building where the big play-doh thing was.LOL. I am arriving on March 12-19. I am just nervous that we will get way far to walk.Have you guys booked preferred & was you happy with your location??? Sorry but I am just nervous about location,I have 2 kids by myself & paid for preferred so am hoping for a great location. Also do you think the parks are doable for March 12-19???? I forgot Easter was in March this year but I need a vacation.

I am sure you will be fine. You can always fax the CRO about 4 days before your arrival and request a room close to ______. We stayed at the ASM a few years back and had a very quiet out of the way room, but the walk to the lobby wasn't bad at all.

As for the parks, during your trip. I suspect the first few days will be quieter then say from the 15th on. The good news is that the parks stay open pretty long hours that week before Easter, so there is plenty of time to see and do everything and still take it slow, or take breaks, or what have you. The thing I would do is keep the long hours in the forefront of your mind, so if the crowds start closing in, or you guys start sniping at each other. Just stop. Grab a bench and some ice cream and wait and relax for the parade. Or leave and come back at dinner time. That is one of the really good perks about going that time of year.....long hours.

NO.........we were not happy at all with our preferred location at POP. What we felt should have been classified as preferred & what Disney considers preferred were very far apart. We were in the 60's on the back side, far away from the pool, elevator, food court, with a view of absolutely nothing etc, but it was considered preferred. Also, since it's such a huge resort during free dining it was packed to the max. We had other issues and after emailing Disney and getting a phone call from a great Disney rep we resolved the issues following our vacation, but we don't plan on staying at POP again. We're going to ASMu in hopes of a quieter resort and much smaller amount of guests.:rolleyes1

With all due respect:
- "Preferred" locations at the Value resorts are rooms in a predetermined radius of the main building (plus, at ASMovies and Pop, buildings or parts of buildings that were being repeatedly requested by Guests wanting to be close to everything but not pay the preferred charge).
- A room in the 60s with a view of 'nothing' would be in the "L" facing either building three or building six (because it wasn't facing the pool and it wasn't facing the lake; process of elimination :))
- There are 72 rooms per floor in each building
- There are six "wings" out from the elevator on each of these floors (two as the 'top' of the T-shaped building, two on the backside of these, and two on the 'stem' of the T).
- No room can be more than twelve rooms away from the elevator.

Our first year at Pop I booked preferred (because it was all that was avail with the discount code I had). We were in the 60's side with the Play Doh. We were on the 4th floor I think the second room from the stairs (being one of the farthest from the elevator). I thought being on the 4th floor was kinda pain. But we only used the elevator (or I did) when we got back at night I was too tired to climb the stairs.

Two years ago when I booked Pop, I asked to be in the 50's or 70's buildings, but did NOT pay preferred. We were located on the backside of Tramp facing the lake. Our walk was maybe 2 minutes, tops. I cannot imagine that any of the preferred locations are much farther than that.

Last I knew, the preferred buildings are all of the 60's, and the fronts of 50's (facing the bowling pin pool), and the fronts of the 70's (facing the main walk way).

I personally think preferred is a waste of money because it doesn't get you that much closer. And if you request a room in the 50's or 70's you are not that far (the 80's and 90's are the farthest, but if you have no intentions of going to the food court, they are the closest to the buses). I don't even feel that any place there is really that far.

Edit:
If you want proximity, call and request a room facing the pool. Last I knew you can make up to 3 requests. So you can request a particular time, building, floor, location, even room number. For example, when I make my ressies I request 1) King bed (I always stress this is my number 1, I'd be far more happier with a king bed than anything else), 2) 50's or 70's buildings, 3) handicap accessible room (these generally don't have tubs, just a big shower which we like much better, lots more room to move).

thanks for your replies.I want to be close to the food court & buses.LOL.I plan to stay out late for EMH .I dont know which area we were in but there was the pool & food court right outside our room with a view of the pool. The jungle book characters were across the way from us.LOL.I would love that same location.
