I was SO happy to see the flight that I've been waiting for show up as a DING for my October date. Now, I need a DING for our flight back in November. It sure felt strange booking a one way flight! BUT I'm hoping for another good rate on the November flight. Anyone else ever booked their SW fares this way?

Yep-coming from another central Ohioan!! I booked my 1 flight for Sept.29th and had to wait 3 weeks for the return-just came up today. I was a little worried there for a while, but ended up getting both 49/pp each way there and back!!! Good luck!

Yes. It's getting more common, especially with savvy people like us :thumbsup2

We also do this on Delta and fly whichever airline has the best price and times. Sometimes we fly down on one and back on another.

Congratulations on good shopping, and good luck for November!

I certainly did. Made it easier when an EVEN BETTER DING came out for our trip home to do the cancel/rebook and get the credit! :thumbsup2

I ended up with N/S flights both ways. $57 to get there pp and $39 to come home pp!!

I used to be afraid, too, but after reading these boards and another board specifically for Southwest "people" I feel more confident to book one way flights, especially with the Dings!
I can't tell you how many flights we took where I wouldn't check the schedule daily, and I didn't have Ding! and we lost so much money.
I initially booked a one way flight for me and my family for $149 One Way.....I booked it Knowing there would be a Ding, and sure enough, Ding! $99 from MCO and Ding! $99 down to $52 for TPA!

Now we have a $380 CREDIT for Our Next Flight in April (DCL!!!) We also have the Southwest Credit Card and we're anticipating a free round trip ticket  Yeah! You Go, Mr. Banana!!!
I thank All The DIS'ers in the Know for helping me with my education on How To Save Money With Southwest Dings!!! Thank You!!!

I actually booked one way with SW and the return with Delta because the times were better and the fare was the same. Added benefit was that I could check in and check luggage at the resort for the return because I was using Delta. No problem.

We got a credit after a DING popped up in July. Now I'm looking for a good fare for this October. Can anyone tell me how I go about booking airfare, utilizing my credit/refund ? I appreciate any help.

Just a question for those that book OW. I need to book airline tickets hopefully on SWA for the week after President's week. I am thinking of booking OW fares in case I can get a price adjustment down the road. My question is if the fares that week are selling out so darn fast like other popular vacation weeks am I going to have time to book the OW fares before they are all gone or should I just do R/T and stop checking for better prices. After the stuff I've read, I have visions of being on there the minute they release the fares and having them all sold out in like 3.5 minutes or something.

Tinkim,
the lower fares go more quickly than the regular fares. I checked the SW schedule expecting them to change it at any moment. Everything was the same. Then I went out to the doctor and returned an hour later...An hour later and I was not able to get the cheapest fare.
Either SW did not offer that cheaper fare for that certain flight, or I just missed it. It's just the luck of the draw.
I wound up paying $20 more per ticket for a different flight, same day.
But don't go crazy over it. If you get it, you get it. If you don't, then oh, well...... :goodvibes

When you get to the payment page there is a section title "Apply Travel Funds". You will need the confirmation number for the ticket the funds are from as well as the credit card holder name for the original purchaser. I think it will let you use up to 4 credits per ticket (if you have more than one). HTH! :thumbsup2

Duh on me  I posted some info that's already here, but here's what I had to say:

Don't Lose That Confirmation Number!
