So I am eligible to book onboard activities in October. Will I be able to advance book a time slot at the BBB? Or is that just port excursions? Also, will the kids need their passport information input into their profile in order to book? I'm not sure we'll have received them by then.

You can book the BBB when your online check-in window opens. If you choose passport as the ID type you will be using, you do need to enter a passport number. However, if you are American citizens on a closed loop cruise beginning and ending at a US port, you can just select that you will be using birth certificates for check-in purposes and then go back and edit the information once you receive the passports. Another option I've read about but never tried, is to enter a dummy number in the passport number field. You can then go back later and edit the number to the real one.

We actually did this on our last cruise. It makes the check in process much easier.

You would book BBB online when your booking window opens. You do not need to complete the online check-in process in order to make your BBB reservation (or other onboard activities like certain character meet/greets or character breakfast if available or port adventures).

You do have to complete the online check-in to get your Port Arrival Time. For that I would mark the kids as using Birth Certificates until you get their passports. Then go back and edit their information to add passport #'s.
