Booking on board: How far in advance?

Not sure how to phrase this right, but how far into the future can you book while onboard? I have a special needs child and would like to keep the kids in the same group--can I book a 2008 cruise onboard in Dec 2005?

We booked a 2005 cruise in 2004, when the 2006 dates opened up, we moved the cruise -- with the on board discount -- into 2006.

You can't book cruises where the dates haven't opened, but you can move a booked cruise to a new year and retain the discount.

2008 would be too far in advance to book in '05. You can book into the next year and later "reschedule" your trip when a new booking time frame opens. For '08, you will likely have to "reschedule" more than once. Discounts and stateroom credits will continue to follow your rescheduling. Unless of course DCL changes policy in the future.

That makes sense about rescheduling and moving the dates up, but do I keep the original price (which I guess would be the 2006 cruise I can book in 2005, then move twice)?

You won't keep the original dollar price, but you will get the 10% off the rate of the newly rescheduled cruise (7 day only). DCL currently gives a stateroom credit of I think $250 p/stateroom booked onboard for a 7 night, less for 3 & 4 nite. Plus your TA will likely offer a stateroom credit to you to rebook and assign the booking to their firm. Hope this helps.
