Booking OKW online: full villa vs. lock-off question

With the advent of online booking, booking a 2 bedroom at Old Key West now offers two choices: full 2 bedroom villa or a 2 bedroom lock-off. For the last 20 years I have booked OKW stays on the phone with MS and really don't remember ever being asked lock-off or full villa.

My question: Is there a geographical distribution of one versus the other throughout the resort? Did early buildings have more lock-offs versus the newer buildings? I typically like to stay around the Turtle Pond area--is there an advantage to booking one type of unit over the other to increase the chances of getting placed where you request? I'm wondering if specifying one type of 2 bedroom unit over the other would limit the location within the resort where the reservation can be placed.

There has always been a difference between dedicated and lock-off's at OKW. They are pretty evenly distributed around the resort so you shouldn't have a problem getting your preference in the Turtle Pond area.

The basic differences are:

• You get two entrance doors in a lock-off (keyed alike)
• You get two temperature controls in a lock-off (handy if you have people with differing temperature comfort levels)
• You get a mini-kitchen in a lock-off, which thus gives you an extra toaster & coffee maker.
• You get an extra, very large closet in a dedicated unit.
• You only have one balcony/patio in a dedicated unit.

Based on availability, MS should always book a dedicated 2-bedroom first unless the member asked for a lock-off. There's no reason for them to book a lock-off and remove a 1-bedroom and a studio from inventory when a dedicated 2-bedroom was available unless the member asked for the lock-off.

There are both dedicated (full) and lockoff 2 bedrooms in every building.

Anytime I requested Turtle Pond I always got it.
